New Mosiac is all character. She is beautiful on the inside but ugly as sin on the outside. Those pics of the interior look great! Too bad it looks like a tin shed on the outside.

An almost shocking total absence of Leafs gear or logos anywhere which is surprising given that a solid chunk of tourists here are likely from the GTA.

I realize that this is totally anecdotal and completely unscientific, but it is an interesting insight into the state of Southern Ontario sports fandom which is totally fixated on the Jays right now.
Niagara Falls is Sabers country, they don't give two squats about the Leafs in those parts.

Blue Jays & Riders are the only true national sports brands here in Canada.

I call BS on the methods used. Outside of the big 3 support is predictable and would be split (Will Edmonton and Calgary give different results for Flames and Oilers? No, likely the same number that cancel each other out).

You dig deeper into the study and they toss in "Brand recognition" into the mix which aligns weight to ability to link corporate sponsors to the sports teams. Once you factor that in it becomes easy to see how the list fell into place. The Habs enjoy a large captive market of French Canada all to themselves.

The fact the Raptors rate so highly is a joke and this is coming from a Raptors fan here. Raptors have very tight geographical pull that falls off once you get out of Southern Ontario. Raptors do have national reach but a NBA fan in Calgary will be just as much of a Russell Westbrook fan and OKC as he is a Raptors fan if given the choice on that survey would select "other NBA" if given the option.

You could argue that the Habs just have the most penetration in their market but they are not a bigger national brand then the Jays. You don't have people in Prince George BC watching Habs games religiously like they would the Blue Jays.

I stand by my statement. Blue Jays lead national rating almost every week. It isn't by fluke.

Habs might be the most valuable sports brand in Canada. I agree. Habs have the most value as they have both French and English markets but they are far from the most popular.

The Jays have next to no penetration in French Canada which is one quarter of the country. The Habs totally dominate here and they are present all across the country, in addition to playing Canada's most popular sport.

The Habs are either co-equal with the Leafs in Atlantic Canada or even slightly more popular than them out there now.

The Habs are arguably the second-most popular hockey team in the province of Ontario whereas the Leafs don't register a blip in Quebec.

And the Habs have a decent presence in the west.

Does it really matter how it looks on the outside? I'd rather an amazing experience inside than an alright one because they had to make it beautiful.

Exactly my thoughts. I love the flow of the roof line from the inside but the tin really sticks out to me from the outside.

If someone could dig up that chart showing all the major markets in the country and their percentage of viewership with the different sports/teams that would be awesome! I recall the Blue Jays were as high/low as the Whitecaps in BC.

well ya it matters how it looks on the outside. you'd rather have it look good than sh*t.

of course the inside matters more. but how the outside looks still counts for something. you shouldn't have to sacrifice the interior to make the exterior look better. both can be done. they aren't mutually exclusive

I have no problem with the exterior of New Mosaic Stadium.

Nuevo Mosaic's interior looks great but the open end of the stadium is forever going to bug me.

Their putting the final touches on the turf for the new Mosaic Feild my question is why bother installing the turf this year? Seems like a waste of subjecting it to winter wear and tear for no reason at all.

The size of the scoreboard and the tiered party deck fill in the south end quite nicely (IMHO)

^^^ How long before a drunken Rider fan gets hit by a train ;-)

Seriously though - that is such a pro stadium, its too bad Regina doesn't have a pro soccer team. Not gonna make much money off of high school sports or college football. So outside of 9-10 football games and lets say 3-5 big outdoor concerts, its easy to see how the ROI on stadiums isn't even close to arenas. Still pretty to look at though - even when it's empty.

Why would a new stadium make any difference with respect to fans getting hit by trains? The old stadium was pretty much just as close to the same tracks.

I'm sure someone will inform me of the exceptions, but by and large stadiums with beautiful exteriors happen mainly when there is a generous political sugar daddy footing all the bills. Personally I'm not that concerned if Mosaic Stadium doesn't win design awards for how it looks on the outside.... it's still better than average.
