Great comparison shots! I love how Chateau Saint John is poking in the far left-hand side as well.

Beautiful Saint John

First I would like to thank Greg for the great photos of Saint John, posted yesterday. I visited Saint John last week for the first time in 10 years, and I am just blown away by the transformation. Saint John looked beautiful...awesome skyline, well maintained and the gorgeous buildings....who knew! We arrived on the Carnival Glory, and were immediately impressed by the warm welcome, my wife even got a long stem rose, as we stepped ashore, and everyone was so helpful and friendly. I left Saint John when I was 12, and have been back numerous time, however this time was totally different. We rented a car and drove all over the city, taking pictures, mainly of buildings and architectural features. WE have traveled all over Europe and I feel that many of the buildings are comparable to what you see in European city's. Saint John and its citizens, should be proud. There is no other city in the Maritimes, that can compare to Saint John......especially that place over to the east...(just thought I would throw that in)

If I can figure out how to post the photos of our visit, I will!

It was suppose to be Tim Horton's according to Trinity-Groups site but they've taken site plans off their website. So riocan's is the one to follow since BB&B & SH are clearly posted on the site map & trinity-group had Best Buy to be situated where BB&B is going to be.

Other retailers @ Corbett include:
The Home Depot
The Shoe Company
Petsmart
Michael's Art Craft Store
Winners
Dollarama
Easyhome
Montana's
Deluxe Fish n' Chips
Eastside Mario's
Costco Wholesale
Costco Gas Bar
Herbal Magic
Panago Pizza
Wheaton's Furniture & Decor
Wicker Emporium
Sally Beauty
Avalon Salon Spa
& others slated to be listed are:
Carters/Oshkosh
Gap Outlet
Bouclair
& those 3 above are slated to be builted next to Bed Bath & Beyond.
St.Hubert Express is slated to be 5,077 sq. ft. in area

You can see the site plan at following website:
http://www.riocan.com/Content/PDF/sitePlan/271A.pdf

Its nice to hear good news about Fredericton but I think you are posting in the wrong thread - not trying to be rude, just pointing out that this post has no relevance to this thread.

Anyone know when the deadline for proposals is for the Fundy Quay (i.e. Coast Guard development)? I was looking through the document posted on SJ Waterfront but couldn't find it anywhere or I might have just missed it. Also, I though the second transfer of the remaining land was to happen this month. Anyone know of anything going on? Thanks!

The Valley

I was told the other day that the land behind the Marr Rd Irving is not only going to contain a St Huberts Express but a Burger King and a Starbucks. Does anyone have any info on the the huge swath of land they have levelled along Millenium across from the new rv place.

As far as I know the Department of Fisheries and Oceans were looking at moving their offices to Millenium drive. Don't ask me why, because there are neither fisheries nor oceans in Rothesay.

They have already moved onto Millennium, the building was finished over the Winter I believe. And DFO has commitments outside of the ocean, their jurisdiction extends to all tidal-influenced waters.

DFO is actually responsible for all Canadian water, whether lakes or rivers or ponds.

Partridge Island Is Not Top In List Of Priorities

Restoration of Partridge Island is further on down the list of priorities for development in the city.

The General Manager of Saint John Waterfront Development, Kent McIntyre says the Coast Guard site next to Market Square, the Reversing Falls master plan and upgrading the Trade and Convention Centre supercede Partridge Island.

Talks have been going on with four developers about the Coast Guard site and one very seriously.

CHSJ News has been told an announcement could be made by the end of the summer.

Saint John Facing Aging Workface Problems

Saint John is not immune from the challenges that come with an aging workforce...a problem facing the entire country.

Enterprise Saint John hosting an event this week featuring speaker Mark Breslin who shares his insight with local employers.

Gina O'Rourke-McKay tells CHSJ News 20 per cent of the city workforce is industrial.

She say the skilled trades are facing many retirements over the next 5 to 10 years so to make sure they have the workers when they need them, Enterprise Saint John has begun an initiative to work with employers, union leaders and educators.

Mark Breslin says Alberta is an example saying it has not shifted its culture to develop people so they are now struggling just trying to find bodies to fill positions.

Vacancy Rate Rises In Saint John

The vacancy rate for renters in Saint John is going up, in large part, because the population isn't increasing. The vacancy rate in Saint John is at 8.4 per cent.

Claude Gautreau of Canada Mortgage and Housing calls that a bit high with the ideal being between 4 and 5 per cent, although renters may disagree because a higher vacancy rate is better for consumers.
The average rent for a two bedroom apartment in Saint John is 696 dollars which is below the provincial average. Fredericton has the lowest vacancy rate in the province at 3.8 percent with Moncton at 5 percent.
The average rent for a two bedroom apartment in Fredericton is $755. In Moncton, it's $721.

Moncton is the fastest growing city in the province.

Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud says the provincial government will provide a $3.8-million payroll rebate to Radian6.Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud says the provincial government will provide a $3.8-million payroll rebate to Radian6. (CBC)

Radian6, a social media monitoring company, plans to create 300 new full-time jobs in Fredericton and Saint John.

The provincial government will provide a $3.8-million payroll rebate to help the company expand its workforce, said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. He made the announcement in the legislative assembly Wednesday.

The money will come from Invest NB, a provincial Crown agency intended to promote economic growth.

Robichaud expects the expenditure will contribute about $8.5 million to the province’s gross domestic product annually.

"Information and communications technology is one of our priority sectors because we recognize it is poised to meet the challenges of the future and offers tremendous growth potential," he said in a statement.

"Radian6 and Salesforce.com have become household names in New Brunswick."

Radian6, founded in 2006, was acquired by Salesforce.com in March 2011 for $326 million.

At that time, the company had about 300 employees, including some in U.S. cities, such as New York, Boston, and Chicago.

Radian6 tracks what's being said about products on social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs.

Its clients include global giants, such as Dell, General Electric, Pepsi and Molson.

That depends on which province/entity you're talking to, there are definite jurisdictional battles between various entities when it comes to inland fisheries.

Agency eyes waterfront deal
Construction expected to begin next spring on development of the former Coast Guard site, now called Fundy Quay, in city's uptown
Southwick, Reid. Telegraph-Journal [Saint John, N.B] 22 June 2012: C.1.

SAINT JOHN - An agency seeking a major real estate deal on the city's waterfront has shortlisted four proponents - all of them backing residential and commercial development with a new hotel - and is engaged in close negotiations with one of them.

Saint John Waterfront Development Corp. plans to spend the summer putting together a deal that outlines phased development of the former Coast Guard site, now called Fundy Quay, with some construction likely to start next spring, said general manager Kent MacIntyre.

The development firm that's now the focus of negotiations has risen to the top of the pack because it has a track record of moving quickly, is well-funded, well-organized and understands mixed-use developments in city centre cores, MacIntyre said.

The four proponents are "major developers" that hail from Halifax, Montreal, central Canada and the northeastern United States, he said.

....

MacIntyre said he's is confident in the short list of four and hopes to have an agreement signed with a successful proponent by the end of the summer.

The project is expected to feature office space, hospitality, residential and retail development. All proponents plan to secure a new hotel at the site.

In recent weeks, MacIntyre's group has been preparing for a deal, securing approval from Common Council to rezone the waterfront property from its previous designation that allowed for Coast Guard operations to one that would make way for the mixed-use project.

MacIntyre said proponents were attracted by this move, which he said signalled the city is business-friendly and welcoming to investors.

....
