I like all of the designs so far.... I really want to be enticed to come to a game then I really want a more open airy feel. Love the red white look, just not open enough...
I like the Pantheon as well...I too wish they would incorporate that design but just make it more open.

- Pantheon is extremely visually impressive and cutting edge from the outside. I think this would be among the most impressive stadiums in the world (which is a very important aspect in all of this). That's the main selling point, I think.
- Pantheon also lacks sunlight. Definitely not much of an open air experience.
- 360 degree jumbotron would be awesome, although I wonder if the sun would be in certain viewers' eyes (the jumbotron could be right behind the sun).

- Solarium would be awesome in open-roof mode. The walls move away to make it look basically just like an outdoor stadium. Very, very cool.
- Even in closed mode, it would be very sunny. There is a HUGE amount of glass in that thing.
- Jumbotron placement would be in the four corners. Not the most impressive.
- Outside it is tough to tell what it would look like. Definitely very large, but maybe kind of just a box at the same time? Having an eye-catching exterior finish will be critical. I'd actually wonder if it would still be attractive if the size of the individual panes were a lot smaller than shown (I assume they would have to be).
- In open mode it looks awesome from the side.
After viewing the presentations of both designs, I can see why this architectural firm was selected. Both designs are impressive.

At first glance, I preferred the Solarium because how airy it appears and how it allows natural sunlight. However, the Solarium seems designed similarly to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy just more airy. Now after looking at the video presentation, I am starting to appreciate the Pantheon more and more. It is very unique and will be unlike any other stadium - and its visually intoxicating both interior and exterior.

I still like both. These two designs are great starting points. I am a big football fan (and Falcon fan in particular) but wasn't all that excited about the new stadium. But with designs like these - I am now excited.

Whether the final design is based on one of these concepts or not, I'm optimistic that Atlanta will become home to a world class landmark.

The more I look at 'Pantheon,' the less I like it:

-- The oculus is too small; which is odd for a stadium whose raison d'etre is sunlight and air.
-- It seems like it would be claustrophobic, esp. when closed.
-- I'm not sure how well it would age.
-- It looks like a tractor tire laying on its side.
-- Its shaping components remind me of the Georgia Dome; which is being destroyed supposedly because it is too old-fashioned.

Good points as well. I just really want an open air feel that would make me get out of my "comfort zone", and want too come to a game on Sunday afternoon...
The other design is very elegant too and definitely attains the "open" feel.

1- The Oculus is big enough where the entire field would be exposed (see the overhead shot).
2- When closed it may be clautrophobic to some. To others it would be awesome and create an intense home-field advantage.
3- I think the Pantheon is much more iconic. The Solarium just leaves me flat (although I think the airyness and opening roof are somewhat interesting).
4- I think the Pantheon's configuration for basketball/concerts/etc. is much cooler.
5-The Solarium looks very similar to Lucas Oil.
6- The Solarium might offer a better game day experience to fans who want an outdoor stadium.

In sum, the Solarium will be interesting for a couple years. The Pantheon will be iconic for decades (IMO).

The MMPT options were just massing study options. The architectural design / skin will not look like that (most likely).

Exactly. Which is the whole point of having a convertible stadium.

I think the opposite may turn out to be true.

It looks like the roof panels of the pantheon are semi-transparent, so that may help with making it feel more open. It may also help provide some needed shade for those early season games.

Are the renderings for the MMPT official? Where can I find these? Also, what's the timeline for the project?

Georgia Tech - EBB

They started raising the crane for the EBB yesterday. Looks like they're about done.

Webcam

Maybe the pace will start to pick up.

Atlanta Streetcar Video Updates

I toured the entire 2.7 mile Atlanta Streetcar loop on April 26th and file this update today. It would have been sooner but post production took longer than anticipated. I ended up labeling all 12 of the Streetcar stops and all of the major roads & intersections along the way.

Entire Streetcar Loop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgrpf6jXO-E

-Individual Sections -
(1) Centennial Olympic Park to Woodruff Park: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB--tk1Op64
Crews have excavated over 600 feet of old rail ties circa 1920's from the original Atlanta Streetcar. 100 years ago Atlanta had a functioning rather extensive streetcar system. I didn't know that once they were phased out, the City of Atlanta simply paved over, rather than removing them. I understand this was more economical but IMO. Here's to passing the buck, I guess...

One of the construction guys said he personally took a few feet of the old streetcar rail, for nostalgia... I haven't see it on eBay yet but I'll keep looking ...

(2) Woodruff Park to 75/85 Connector via Edgewood Ave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQcevfo2eJg
Crews are digging up Park Place between Edgewood and Auburn Ave.

(3) 75/85 Connector to King Historic District via Edgewood Ave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tme-zTRfQXw
The is by far the most complete section. Crews have laid the Streetcar track and poured the concrete, effectively only leaving the stops and sidewalk improvements left to complete.

(4) King Historic District to 75/85 Connector via Auburn Ave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QVqyikdrok
Crews have laid the Streetcar track and are actively laying the corresponding electrical cables & pipes along Auburn Ave.

(5) 75/85 Connector to Woodruff Park via Auburn Ave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzaTPb-fPXk
Utility lines have been marked. Otherwise no construction activity along Auburn Ave between the Connector and Peachtree Center Ave. However work continues around Woodruff park.

(6) Woodruff Park to Centennial Olympic Park via Peachtree St, Ellis St, Carnegie Way & Andrew Young International Blvd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FXRfqzWhzs
No construction activity along Peachtree St quite yet. Utility work continues along Ellis. However work Andrew Young Blvd is roaring with crews ready to lay the new tracks once the old track are removed. Lol...

unknown current projects...

Does anyone know what they are building at the corner of 17th, 18th, and Village Street in Atlantic Station?

Fences are up, dirt is getting turned.

And...they are demoing 1967 Collier Road Northwest
Any idea what this is?

From what I could find, nobody reported it. I bet they don't consider this "newsworthy"... Well I do!!! So much so that Immovable Media will be launching an "Atlanta Streetcar" website featuring facts, figures and most importantly, VIDEO UPDATES! Stay tuned, I'll keep everyone posted...
