You're referring to the development discussed upthread:
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5125838&postcount=7000

While the owner's hyperbole is over the top, he was referring how close the new building will be, due to the rules being relaxed for the STIR program.

If I recall Vancouver has a minimum spacing between towers of 20-25m to prevent this situation, Edmonton just adopted the same, but within the same building I am not sure what the regulations are.

Just noticed that the alley-crossing of the sidewalk behnd Lennox Pub on Robson has gotten the new concrete crosswalk treatment - cleans up the look of the alley entrance quite a bit.

was by there yesterday as well ... the rebar is now above grade ... whoot!

I like the looks of this tower actually ... the "side podium" is nice and tall and robust.

Article from yesterday's Sun about downtown office construction:

Competition heats up over construction of next new office tower in downtown core
By Darah Hansen

Competition to build Vancouver's next office tower is expected to heat up over the coming months as demand for new and larger commercial space continues to grow in the city's notoriously tight downtown market.

According to a year-end report released Wednesday by commercial real estate service Avison Young, several developers are jockeying to obtain approvals needed from the city in order to get moving on new construction.

Among the proposals, Bentall Kennedy is looking to include 365,000 square feet of office space, coupled with a 33,000-square-foot retail component, in a 23-storey development at 745 Thurlow Street...

Toderian said the city is aware of six proposals for stand-alone office projects in the downtown core, as well as several mixed-use projects outside the central business district, in keeping with land-use regulations.

Toderian says there are 6 stand alone office projects in the downtown core - we have:

745 Thurlow (Bentall-Kennedy)
1021 West Hastings (Oxford)
Rogers Arena Tower (Aquilini)
1133 Melville (Oxford)
Telus

What is the other?

Someone (maybe JLousa) mentioned a tower next to the Seabus Terminal?
Anything happening with that RBC branch site at Howe & Nelson?

There are a few others in planning stages, but not publicly. Not sure which the City would consider 'formal' proposals - neither 1133 Melville nor Telus have formally submitted anything yet. Cadillac Fairview may have something in the works near the foot of Seymour Street...Austeville Properties also has a site in 500 block of Georgia...

Howe and Nelson (owned by Manulife) is dead right now, but could be revived...the fact that it is potentially mixed use (w/some residential) points to it being sold before developed...

Believe the 6th is in fact the Austeville Project also on Georgia St although it's a couple of years behind the other proposals.
I think we could count the JP/Relaince tower as the one tower will be strictly commercial and will add as much space as the 1021 Oxford proposal.

Thank goodness I just sold my condo overlooking that lot or I'd go all NIMBY about losing my view of some Ford Mustangs.
