At least as of the last updates, yes. There was a lot of outcry when their initial plan was to demolish it, because it's a contributing building to the Sweet Auburn Historic District. 229 Auburn building was constructed around 1908 and was home to Atlanta State Savings Bank, the first chartered bank for Black people in Georgia. It also has this interesting bit of history.

Midtown site for luxury condo tower Opus Place listed for foreclosure

I think this has been officially dead for a while, but now it's super-officially dead.

I think it's awesome that it's being saved (as of current plan). It's just the type of building you see from the outside and say, "it's sad that is going to get the wrecking ball one day," and that developers will always cry is uneconomic to save.

Pour one out for the Amazon 100% clown and his posturing that this site was saved by mysterious Chinese Investors

Good riddance - lets hope it's bought by someone who can ACTUALLY DELIVER a project

Hopefully, a signature tower or a magnificent symphony hall (like originally planned from around 20 years ago).

Frankly I wouldn't mind everything else sitting out a couple years waiting for the Rockefeller project to deliver and set the standard for Midtown projects moving forward. There has been an absurd volume of high quality projects in Midtown that all need to absorb at once, and the city may need some time to grow into this new pair of shoes.

Next cycle, let's hope the market distributes the more formulaic type projects that were built in Midtown in the 2010s all over Downtown, SoNo, Centennial Yards, Buckhead, Perimeter, and Cumberland, and reserves new developments in Midtown, West Midtown, and Eastside Trail for the highest concept and density projects. I think that vision hinges on successful absorption of Rockefeller and the other recent Midtown/West Midtown/EST projects.

State of Georgia should buy it and turn it into a plaza with fountains ala any random city in Italy.

Hey look, Dewberry is doing something!
Demolition permit filed for the warehouse building behind Henry's on the 10th street block.

"Intent is to demolish an existing hazard that exists on our property at 132 10?? Street. The existing structure is beyond physical repair and is causing multiple problems. This demolition project will not allow for future surface parking and no existing vegetation will be affected. The hope is that through this project, we can assist in reinvigorating the Midtown ATL corridor."

EDIT: While the geotag on the permit shows the wearhouse, it's possible the dilapidated structure at 10th and Peachtree could be demolished, since another permit says "two structures."

Planning permit filed for a small-scale mixed-use building at North and Lindsay in Bankhead.

"A new mixed use three story building comprised of two residential floors of affordable housing, three units on each floor, above two commercial retail spaces, a laundry facility, and a leasing office with garage on the ground floor."

I doubt that building would be described as a hazard or beyond physical repair. It is still occupied…

10th and Juniper

Speculation time:

It was shared on Twitter a few weeks ago that a demo permit was filed for two buildings at 10th and Juniper. Channel 2 is reporting that Henry's was unable to renew their contract and their last day open will be Nov 30th.

Will Dewberry use this to expand the parking lot, or is something bigger finally in the works?

Given his track record, he'll let Henry's become rundown and covered in graffiti and nothing will built on the lot until 2038.

To be honest, I hope you're right. The small park there has become a really great social space that Midtown is otherwise sorely lacking.

I can't think of another major urban neighborhood anywhere that has literally zero public parks.

(obviously I'm aware of Piedmont Park but it's not part of Midtown and it's a looong way from the south end)
