[QUOTE=Comrade;10422276]Here's some better renderings:

It's a bummer that the DC has those tunnels in the corners for hockey, watching that Winnipeg Game 7 the other night looked so clean with the seating wrapping all the way around the rink.

Wish there was a way to cover those corners with seating.

Awesome name IMO. Perfectly threads the needle between familiar (an animal!), interesting (extinct megafauna!), and relevant (cold!).

Logo... yeah. OK but only OK. Incorporating the mountains is clever. Aggressive looking side facing animal head with lots of sharp angles and swoops is a little generic. Could be a lot worse though.

Yeah. Logo is basic. I do like the left mountain is in the shape of Utah. Subtle and clever

Also the "M" that's incorporated in that mountain as well. Another little easter egg.

It's basically exactly what we were expecting, but it's solid.

I really like the logo tbh. It could've been so much worse.

It's one of the best done modern NHL logos I think. On first glance, it just works. You know exactly what it is and what it is getting across. On the second look, it has a lot of meaning that enhances the identity as a whole without getting too smart with it. They clearly used the Hockey Club year to get it right and I think it will hold up.

I think it's hard to pick a name and a decent logo in today's environment. The expectation is that it won't be too cartoony - or too bland or too repetitive or too 'create a team' and that kinda rules out every fucking logo/team possible.

Even if you go more niche, fans would probably say, "that's weird."

Like, if Utah went with the Utah Bonnevilles and called themselves the Bonnies for short, a lot of people would complain.

And yet, the NHL has a team literally called the Maple Leafs and Red Wings lmao

So, I think it works. I think it fits the state (way better than Outlaws), fits the winter culture and provides a cool mascot.

$300 million to build an underpass for one third of one block, with no off-ramps?

No way. Maybe $300 million for a whole suite of arena-related infrastructure upgrades including but not limited to that.

I know infrastructure is expensive but it's not that expensive. I'm involved in a sort of comparable project, in a more expensive market with probably more complex surroundings, and it's about 1/6th that.

not everywhere. the dayton dragons have sold out every game to date in their 25yr existence, which is a pro sports record. its a class A minor league team in a class AAA ballpark — capacity 8230 (i think they had some venue record 9,500 events). hell thats better than the cle indians usually pulled when i was a kid lol.

There's always going to be exceptions to everything but it's down overall:

Salt Lake is one of the teams who's seen the biggest decline so far this year.

I'm surprised it's only 647 down. Still bad considering a brand new stadium, but yeah..

SLC sports district update: UDOT to build massive pedestrian plaza over 300 West
https://share.google/jSC9UREGrxOYr8Rh6

Quote:
State transportation officials plan to use hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to sink a portion of 300 West and create an elevated pedestrian plaza to serve Salt Lake City’s sports, entertainment, culture and convention district.

New details of the project, first reported by news website Building Salt Lake, include plans for lowering 300 West by about 10 feet between South Temple and 100 South. The Utah Department of Transportation would then build a pedestrian plaza about 10 feet above ground level and over the sunken road, department administrator Robert Stewart said. This plaza would connect the Delta Center to a portion of land Smith Entertainment Group purchased in April that is currently occupied by a chunk of the Salt Palace Convention Center.

I think it's funny they compare a highway interchange with what they're going to do here... Not even close to the same. Curious if they're just going to make it an up-over-down plaza or if they're going to keep the 10-foot raised plaza extending east and have access to some of the entertainment district from that level, with escalators and stairs to bring people back down to ground level as well. On the DC side, seems like they COULD extend that raised plaza all the way to the arena and make a second entrance on that level. Rogers Place in Edmonton does this, where the arena itself extends out over a street and there's two levels to enter. None of the renderings I've seen have this setup however, but also none of them show a 10-foot raised plaza so maybe revised renderings are going to be needed either way.
