Can't seem to find it, but an interior render of one of the Ottawa arena proposals has an awesome ceiling. That's what I would love to see. Gives the venue a more intimate look and should improve sound greatly for concerts. Almost gives it a concert hall feel/look.
Here's the ceiling from the Sens winning proposal. We'll see if they actually stick with the design in about 5-10 years.

The losing proposal;

Love that.

If that proposal comes through and they stick with the design, based on the interior and exterior - it'll be the nicest arena in the NHL.

Here is a photo of the Dalhousie University Memorial Arena. Unfortunately it was demolished a few years ago due to structural issues.

There was also a small town Saskatchewan arena that was in the news a while back, and I remember loving how it looked. Very basic, but still...

Here's the interior of the Columbia Icefield at the University of Waterloo.

The humidity build up in there in the summer is crazy. I played there a few times and it was like it was raining indoors.

Seems like it would be an ideal venue for a CPL team (if that ever gets off the ground)

Those style of arena's were a 1967 Centennial project. I don't know how many of these were built but I know of one in Ninga Manitoba and another in Mortlach SK.

A little background...

The year’s commemorations fell into two categories: monuments and activities. In a desire to leave behind a literally concrete memory of the year, the federal and provincial governments financed a wide variety of building projects. The federal Centennial Commission set aside $25 million, roughly $1 for every person in Canada. Each dollar that was spent on a centennial event by a municipality was matched by $1 from the federal government and $1 from the respective provincial government.

Such largesse encouraged the construction of facilities such as libraries, art galleries, theatres and sports complexes. Each province acquired a centennial memorial building. The most lavish concrete monument was the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, paid for entirely by the federal government. The largest and most renowned, expensive and all-encompassing special event was Expo 67 and its companion World Festival, both in Montréal.

Lot can be said about a persons personality in your statement. Guess on that note when Northlands gets bulldozed, no sentiment?

That's ok, you can keep your thoughts in Edmonton where they belong....

There was no bigger supporter of the new stadium than I, it has far exceeded all of my expectations.

Seeing the old place fall however was sad for merely sentimental reasons. Many great memories with Dad who recently passed away, it was like big chapter in my life closing, went to that place for 40+ years, kinda like seeing an old house you've lived in brought down.

Absolutely! Like I said I can see how it Can mean something to someone and I'm not trying to be insensitive to that. But for me personally places like Canads, Mosiac, Ivor wynne and McMahon (in it's current state) are blemishes on this league. They are giant statues that represent a time when the CFL was a joke. I remember the last Grey Cup at Mosiac I was so embarrassed as a Canadian that Tom Hanks was at that stadium. For me It's great to see them come down and these new stadiums go up.

Have you got your estrogen levels checked lately? Jesus man get it together. Mosiac was a dump. Great memories! But a dump. And stadiums like that really held this league back on so many levels. Celebrate your new home!

It's just a matter of putting OilCountry's opinion in prospective, He probably had only been to old Mosaic a couple times (if ever) so how could someone like that be able to rub a few brain cells together to form a sentimental value to a stadium that's been a landmark in Regina for a thousand Rider games over the past 70 years.

It's not fair to insult him cause he doesn't hold the stadium in the same regard as you. I'm a Rider fan and I also am glad to see that dump fall to the ground for many of the same reasons Oilcountry mentioned.

Sure, so many people in this province grew up with that stadium as the background of their football memories. Good for them, I'm sure it is weird to know it no longer exists. But in my opinion, as a province we deserved better than that stadium for the longest of times and I see no reason to look back at it fondly, the same I'm not going to look back at my elementary school and think "that dump was magical".

So you're questioning someones intelligence for not having any sentimental value for something? Intelligence has nothing to do with emotion. Maybe if you could rub a few brain cells together you'd realize that.

^ after all, it does take an IQ to know what an EI is (Emotional Intellegence, that is, as if I needed to spell it out)
