MLK and Alexander, right by the train station. NW corner: MLK Highline apartments nearing completion. NE corner: anyone know what is going on here? They've been clearing the lot and digging for a few weeks, and just recently put up Tribble & Stephens signage

Trailhead Phase II

https://www.stonelake.com/portfolio-...head-phase-two

Quote:
Located across Shady Lane from Stonelake’s “Trailhead” development, Trailhead Phase Two will be a denser, ~230 unit wood frame, wrap style multifamily development on ~2.5 acres. Austin has seen tremendous growth, with nearly 3% annual population growth over the last 4 years. Stonelake believes that strong market demographics will continue to create high demand in this East Austin area.

East MLK Office Project Breaks Ground Near Ferdinand Street

https://austin.towers.net/east-mlk-o...dinand-street/

Compared to the rapid growth along other more industrial corridors in East Austin, the stretch of East MLK Jr. Boulevard near I-35 has maintained a pretty quiet pace of development over the last few years, with large tracts like Oakwood Cemetery and the UT baseball stadium at UFCU Disch–Falk Field occupying large stretches of land closer to the highway, along with inward architectural landmarks like John S. Chase’s 1965 Phillips House and 1959 David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Dallas Developer Awaits City Approval for 30-Unit Condo Project

https://www.virtualbx.com/constructi...condo-project/

Quote:
A Dallas developer received rezoning for a proposed mixed use development during a recent meeting of the Austin Planning Commission.

The 0.67 acres property was converted from community commercial-mixed use (GR-MU) to general commercial services-mixed use (GS-MU) with a conditional overlay prohibiting automotive uses.

The site is located at the southeast corner of Chalmers Avenue and East 3rd Street in the city’s East Cesar Chavez neighborhood.

Currently, the property has two residential units and a semi-paved vacant area that will need to be demolished.

To piggyback of of my last comment, I'm definitely agreed. The only high rise I can think of that actually came through with vegetation like the renderings was 70 Rainey, which looks significantly better because of it. JW Marriott tried, and seemingly gave up after a year or so after opening.

As a defining feature, those rounded balconies are starting to show up more and more in our designs (I'm thinking specifically about 4th and Brazos, and the new Whole Foods expansion on 5th Street.) It's an interesting nod to art deco -- throwing it back a loooong ways, compared to all the Modernism from the '50s we seem to constantly be referencing.

Offices Rising to New Heights at a Former East Austin Coffee Roastery

https://austin.towers.net/offices-ri...ffee-roastery/

A warehouse building at the northwest corner of East Fourth and Onion Streets that’s served as the home of old-school East Austin roastery Texas Coffee Traders since the 1990s is bound for a six-story office and retail redevelopment by commercial real estate firm Stream Realty Partners, according to documents from an upcoming meeting of Austin’s Planning Commission.

Tower cranes are going up on the Springdale Green site. I think there will be three total but might be wrong.

Springdale Green's second crane is strikingly tall for something so far East. It's by far the tallest thing on this side of town; the permit said the cranes would go up to 315', and I don't think it's quite that tall yet, but maybe the 3rd crane will be.

The Springdale Green cranes do seem excessive for a six story building. Here they are from 12th and Airport.
