That, and there is no on-site parking. Between the residents and businesses in the Broadway Lofts building that tiny parking garage is completely maxed out. I think they should just rebuild the garage deeper and put it under the new development so that it can be redesigned more robust. It will still be a nice piece of infill though if they proceed with this plan.

I hate to interject with corrections, but I felt compelled to post.
Wasatch_One stated that the elevation of Utah Lake being just over 4300', but this isn't quite true. I was a flight student at UVU for two years, and flew out of the Provo Airport. There is a major dike that separates the Airport from the lake, though the elevation of the runway is approx. 10 or so feet higher than the lake. The runway elevation is 4497 officially, according to the FAA. That means that Utah Lake is around 4490, depending obviously on the amount of rain, which last year for the whole year it was 2 feet above full, and this year is full.
But still, the fact that Timp rises 7250' above the valley floor is impressive. There's a reason why they call this area the Wasatch Front, because there isn't a wall of mountains like the Wasatch anywhere in the lower 48.

On a side note, I was in Alaska last month, my sister lives there. The Chugach Mountain Range, that is very easily viewable from the Glenn Highway, is amazing. Some of the peaks in the Chugach hit 14,000 rising from 1,200'. You literally have to crane your neck to see them. Also, along the Cook Inlet, which is the main waterway from the Pacific to Anchorage, there are a few volcanoes. One of which rises from the ocean to an altitude of over 12,000. Quite impressive. Texans that claim everything is bigger in Texas have never been to Alaska. How many mountains are visible from 250 miles away in Texas? Well, we could see Mt. McKinley from Anchorage the day we flew home, and Anchorage is 250 miles away. McKinley is HUGE! To put that in perspective. . . imagine how big Timpanogas would have to be in order to be visible from St. George. . .

The maker of a small, energy efficient desktop computer is looking to hire 500 people for its Utah operations, an investment the state calculates at $32 million.

The board of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) on Thursday approved $2 million worth of tax rebate incentives for Xi3 Corp., the builder of the Xi3 modular computer.

The incentives were conditioned on the Salt Lake City-based company completing plans to hire up to 500 people over the next five years ­­—at wages at least 25 percent or higher above the average wage Salt Lake County, which in fiscal year 2012 is $43,468.

I am pretty sure they have always been based in Utah, this tax credit is just to encourage them to stay in Utah and not jump ship.

I am more curious as to where they are actually physically located in SLC. I can't find an adress on their site. I know they are based in SLC but I just don't know where. I am wondering if they are going to have to find a different building because of the expansion.

Why would you want a computer fabrication and assembly facility to be located in DT SLC? I like industrial parks just as much as the next guy, but I don't one located in a central core of a city.

Though the article did say that there corporate offices are located in DT SLC.

The former Two Creek Coffee Shop in the Avenues has closed, and a full-service restaurant called "Wood Fire 502" would like to open in the same space (on 3rd Avenue between G and H Streets). It's a neat old building in a very residential area which lacks many full service restaurants (especially if you don't consider those on S. Temple). One hitch is that the restaurant is applying for a liquor license, but it falls within the 600 foot buffer of a church (an LDS church on G Street) restricted under the Utah Alcohol Beverage Control Act.

The DABC has scheduled a hearing on the issue on August 15 at 4 p.m. My understanding is that the restaurant would have to be granted a waiver by the church in question in order to apply for a liquor license. Here's the public notice on the issue (http://www.utahlegals.com/notice.php?id=156703)

I was talking more about the corporate offices. If that part expands as well then it will be great to see more people/workers come downtown.

This is awesome, I live right by here. This area does lack food for sure. I hope it gets through, I was sad when Two Creek closed, this might be even better.

But seriously, I love the dramatic relief of the Wasatch. I live basically at the base of Mt. Nebo and work at the base of Mt. Timpanogos. To say that looking out the window of my office from my desk and can't see the top of the mountain is no exaggeration. Now that's relief; or a good reason to feel claustrophobic.

When I've been in places like Orlando, I've honestly felt lost because I couldn't see the mountains. Some people come to the Wasatch Front and feel that the mountains are too ominous for them. Whereas I go to places without mountains and long for my "security blanket."

...not sure if you're a reader or not, but if you are, this book might be something you'd enjoy--it's about Mt Timpanogos, but includes a lot of information about Mt Nebo. Basically how we've "made places" along the Wasatch Front, even when we've had to invent them. My boyfriend worked there until they closed! Well, until they were forced out of business by the lady who wants to open the new restaurant. Two Creek became really popular, the space became a hot location, the woman talked the landlord into raising the rent so the owners of Two Creek couldn't afford to operate anymore. My boyfriend's been out of work ever since.

That’s terrible. I heard the rent went up, but I didn’t know they were forced out like that. I’m hoping the new restaurant will be good and worth it I guess. I know there are a couple of new coffee shops opening at the U next week and the new Starbucks at City Creek if it helps at all.

While I am not a huge lover of the prudential building, it would be nice if the site across the street, surrounding the little Zions Bank was more of a serious option.

That way Regent St could see a much larger revival, could keep the Prudential building, even though the old fountain is gone, get ride of the old Mr. Mac/NAC building on Main and connect it over to Regent St.

Exactly! There are so many vacant lots in downtown. They should build on those lots.
