I know it's a necessity but I hate that wrap-around business...

Areacor no longer has this property locked up. New owner... the new project will now take the entire site including the corner property. I will provide more details in the new year.

I know this area well - my aunt used to live in that building on the left - she has MS and it's supposed to be assisted living units. I remember being able to hear the clock outside go off not far from there as a kid. I don't know if it still exists but there used to be a big fancy clock outside that used to chime on the hour.

Does anyone remember this clock? I remember I used to be able to see it out her window down the road - it was pretty tall and fancy looking.. I can't seem to find any reference to it though..

Does anyone know if one person or multiple people own the properties between King, Bay, Market & Caroline St N? See my highlighted map below....

The Hamilton Store Fixtures building is an ugly eye sore, the buildings on the corner of King & Bay seem like such a wasted opportunity being lowrise at such a prime location as does the big parking lots. And I love A&W but a full size drive thru location belongs in the suburbs we need an urban A&W location in a podium without the drive thru and parking lot.

This entire area is prime land to extend our downtown corridor we just need someone with a vision and deep pockets!

Thoughts?

The Store Fixtures building was recently emptied out because the owner intends to demolish it to build something on that land. I can't really recall what it was at the moment. The rest of those parking lots probably won't be going anywhere for some time. They're probably the busiest ones in the city because they're right across the street from Jackson Square/First Ontario/Federal building. The owners probably make tons of money when events are going on.

Hey Micheal, any updates on this site? Slow down in the market as hamilton23 said in the other thread?

A slow-down in the market he says. I don't hear that at all. From Grimsby to Twitby it's on fire, but Hamilton is the hole in the donut... and right in the middle of it all. I still have my doubts about RC3 despite what I read from hamilton23.

No slowdown in Toronto at least.... https://www.theguardian.pe.ca/news/c...climbs-301992/

Quote:
Toronto’s crowded skyline could see scores of new skyscrapers sprouting up in the next few years, more than doubling the number of tall buildings in the city, according to a new report.

“80 new residential and mixed-use skyscraper projects are in various stages of development, 31 of which already have a completion date set,” according to research by Point2 Homes, a real estate listing site.
Some of that spillover effect must be happening here in Hamilton and if it's not our city council is to blame for not capitalizing on the demand and positioning our city as a cheaper alternative! I believe our absurd height limit and red tape is forcing Hamilton to miss this boat.....

I know I've said this too often, but Hamilton's lower city has shrunk for 45 straight years. Let that sink in. In the middle of Canada's most prosperous region....it's no accident. Crap leadership and zero vision. The do-nothings and NIMBYs in full control.

It's not possible that the lower city is shrinking in population anymore....there has been a huge influx of people moving to downtown and new condos and apartments everywhere.... Downtown is busier than it has been in ages

I thought the same a year or two ago and yet it was still somehow true. I'm sure the trend will buck within the next 5 years and slowly start to grow but I don't know if we're there yet.
