Just wondering on my part...but...besides a mention in an interview has there ever been anything official from Delta stating that Austin is a 'focus city' ?

They mentioned Austin as a focus city at their investor day last week.

Quite excited about the A350-1000 coming to AUS! Austin is INCREDIBLY blessed to be assigned the A350-1000. It shows how highly BA thinks of Austin and that they want to establish a strong customer-base prior to additional London competition coming online in the future (Norwegian to LGW is a completely different product).

Austin was one of BA's first destinations utilizing the B787 product and now they are one of the first to receive their A350-1000.

The summer B744 that was flying to AUS will now be flying to SJC instead.

Here's a closer look at the product coming to Austin:

Always good to see another monopoly busting route, AA in this case, even if from a somewhat unreliable carrier.

Frontier is growing rapidly in Newark. I would expect them to add a flight to Austin. Spirit has one starting, but high priced UA continues to overcharge on this route for now.

Amazon in line to build massive distribution center outside Austin

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/n...tribution.html

--The proposed project is a four-and-a-half-story logistics/distribution center on about 94 acres at 2000 E. Pecan St. less than a mile from State Highway 130 in Pflugerville and Travis County, according to plans submitted to the city of Pflugerville.

--The single-building facility will have 43,000 square feet of office space, 780,552 square feet of warehouse space and 3 million square feet designated for robotics on a "mezzanine level," according to the public filings. There will be 1,706 parking spaces.

--To put the proposed project size of 3.8 million square feet into perspective, that would be more than four times larger than Amazon's San Marcos warehouse, which is 855,000 square feet.

--If Project Charm is Amazon, it appears it would be the company's largest distribution facility in Texas. The e-commerce giant seems to be moving forward with these kinds of enormous projects all around the country, proposing a handful of nearly identical facilities across the United States
I've always pictured these facilities as ways to sort ground freight -- tons of trucks coming and going night and day. But would this also impact air freight?

Great news for Austin! However, I don't believe this center will impact ABIA greatly.

I disagree. This may indicate that Prime Air may seek eventually to have major operations at ABIA since the road connection from there to the proposed warehouse is excellent.

Hoo boy -- I just properly looked up Prime Air and realized belatedly we're talking about the fabled drone delivery service rather than full fledged air cargo.

Having a fleet of these things zipping across Austin airspace would be, frankly, kinda creepy. When I picture this, I think I constantly underestimate the potential volume of individual drones. There would be a LOT of them, all of them taking smaller, more numerous trips than the delivery vans.

I think we're talking about the cargo airline as it was called Prime Air initially. Seems they've recently renamed it Amazon Air.

Correct, here is a link to their wiki with fleet info. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Air

This video gives a good sense of the link between Amazon Air and its distribution centers. I think this strongly suggests they'll set up a major operation at the airport on the west side in time to transport goods to/from this massive facility and the one in San Marcos.
