Curious. Can a company buy the naming rights for a building full of apartments or is that just for office tower's. As that hat up there sure has alot of space for some corporation to blast their name to the prairies lol.

Interesting question... what if, let's say, Kia bought the naming rights to 300 Main and called it Kia Tower or some such. Would that give them license to mount huge Kia signs on each side of the building?

I can't think of a reason why they couldn't, other than the fact that such a thing might be perceived as tacky and hurt the marketability of the building as a result. Some newer buildings have prominent signs displaying the building's name (e.g. 300 Assiniboine), so I'm not sure what if any difference there would be between that and the hypothetical Kia Tower.

* Kia came to mind as an example because of the Tour Pleyel in Paris which has a giant Kia sign mounted on top

Maybe Earl's would like to put signs up on the top to make it easier to find their flag ship location from all of downtown Winnipeg.

I was walking thru their new upper level connection to the skywalk from Fort and Graham over the last week, and I saw that parts of the wood lattice ceiling have started to fall off in a few locations.

Shaw tower in Vancouver might be considered like this. 16 floors of the building are Shaw offices, but I think most see it as a 41 condo building.

Doesn't quite fit the same profile, but Shaw and the Canadiens towers in MTL are what I think of with branding on a residential building.

I would imagine it will have a big 300 up there...maybe.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. I'm not a fan. I'm kind of surprised they did it in a place like Montreal.

Canad Inns would look pretty snappy up there. They'd just have to move the spotlight ever so slightly.

.. not.

Maybe a big-ass Paterson 'P'.

Most cities have strict policies on third party signs. "Artis" would have a much easier time getting a permit. Maybe you'll see their logo up there.

Thinking about logos on buildings, it is weird to me that the new main BMO branch has a RBC logo at top of the tower.

But if 300 Main sells its naming rights such that it officially becomes "Rogers Tower" or what have you, is it still a third party name? Arenas do this all the time.

It's the same thing. 3rd party advertisers pay owners to display their logo. Stadiums usually include public investment and any revenue stream is sought by the partnership.

Probably money and no more deadline (turnkey up to 22nd floor was a deadline to receive TIF grant).
