It is. I don't think that photo uses a telephoto zoom either. Living there, even from my 8th floor apartment in Metrotown you could see Mount Baker.

I think it probably does. While Mt. Baker is easily visible from Vancouver, from my recollection it doesn't appear nearly as close as it seems in this picture - which implies the distance shortening that telephoto zoom lenses bring.

Detroit is going to be incredibly expensive to clean up. The entire region needs to ban suburban sprawl and invest (both publicly and privately) in central locations if they (or, "we" in your hypothetical) hope to salvage even 25% of the population that was once there...

Looks like it may only take a few more towers and Burnaby will rightfully challenge Mississauga for the number 1 suburban skyline in Canada.

Even more rightly if it can build a tower over 180 meters.

Burnaby already has a 184 meter tower under construction. Bottom floor retail/lobby, 12 floors of office, 36 floors of condos. Solo District Altus. Although, this tower is in Brentwood, not Metrotown... Brentwood's skyline is not nearly as impressive as Metrotown, nor is the street level experience. Metrotown is home to the main branch of the Burnaby Public Library, a couple major parks nearby, and Kingsway running through it offering full streetfront retail except for the section of Metrotown Mall's parking lot (slated for redevelopment anyways). Not to mention it contains the 2nd largest mall in the country. The difference between Metrotown and Brentwood is similar to the difference between Metrotown and New Westminster. New Westminster is much more historic and dense compared to Metrotown, and Metrotown is much more historic and dense compared to Brentwood.

Yeah it has been UC for a couple months, excavation is complete and I think the foundation is about halfway to ground level.

Except everyone here still goes to the U.S. for all major shows and sporting events, massively better prices on all goods, groceries, and gas, and as well cheaper costs on travelling such as flying.

Detroit is a mess, but I fail to see the comparison with U.S. & Mexico. Enlighten me.

Not all of Detroit is a mess, downtown, midtown and new centre are all experiencing more investment and development than they have in decades. Truly amazing considering how fucked up their city government has been, and how bombed out and lawless many of the neighbourhoods are! The Greater Detroit Region is also doing fairly well, but does need to reign in the sprawl and think more in terms of one region, as opposed to each individual city looking out only for themselves. Great things are happening in Detroit, and it's very exciting to witness after so many lost decades!
