A lot of them are in one place at http://atlantadev.com and there's a map to go along with it at http://map.atlantadev.com. I need to spend a little more time keeping it up to date though...

I think students will be able to move in this fall into the remodeled part of the building? This is a pretty awesome addition to the area with 700+ beds.

Cool video of an Atlanta streetcar being tested in Sacramento California, look how they have the Downtown Atlanta skyline on both ends of the s70 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwQc3WbMbLI&list=UUG7y8_yM0CIwzFpfQR0Q8dw&index=3

thanks for your terrific updates. don't let people take away your rights. how can they dig up a hole, make all that noise, build a structure half way to the sky and not expect anyone to look or take pictures or video. very Hitler like if i must say.

Q: So the stadium will not be completely enclosed on both ends?

A: Correct. There will be plazas, etc., but you’ll be able to see out of it. (Note: On the site immediately south of the Dome, the plan is to orient the stadium in a southwest-to-northeast direction.)

My question is, will it be more interactive and have stuff to do like, retail and food? Or will it be a big empty dead zone like it is now? Is there a rendering I missed?

Emory Healthcare has broken ground on the new J-wing of Emory University Hospital (EUH) on the Clifton Road main campus. This will be a 9 story tower with 4 levels of underground parking. It will contain 210 inpatient hospital beds including new intensive care units (ICUs). The total expansion of EUH will be less than 210 beds as the old ICUs in the A wing (the oldest part facing Clifton road) and perhaps other medical surgical beds will will be retired. A new bridge across Clifton Road will be created as well as a connection to the Emory tunnel system. Completion is expected in 2016 with occupancy in 2017. I have not seen a rendering of building, but this is a rendering of the construction plan from the Emory website:

This is a football stadium, so the expectation that it will "transform" the area into something lively on most days is in my opinion entirely unrealistic. Unlike baseball, Football games are only played once a week. Restaurants and shops can't thrive on such sporadic attendance. There are already a few places on Marietta that serve gamegoers and the patrons od occasional special events (Final Four, SEC, etc.). The surrounding neighborhood can't patronize these places itself. Therefore, I don't see this stadium really chaning much.

On the other hand, I think a redevelopment around Turner Field could be transformational as games are held more frequently, there isn't much nearby now, and the neighboring communities have enough money to eat out.

We need to think about how to help Vine City, but that help would probably best come in initiatives focused on education and social programs.

That said, I hope the design does interact with the street more and feels less boxy. Turning the old Dome site into a park with grass would be a great step, but I understand the plan is to pave it for parking.

It'd be nice if they left little pocket squares of green space mixed in a grid of parking where the old Dome is ... that way people could park but still have greenspace and really make it a dedicated tailgating spot.

tailgating on grass > tailgating in a parking lot

Stadium Impact and Development

Stadium impact and development

Check out Maria Saporta's new piece about the new stadium and the guidelines driving it. It may answer some questions.

Just make the whole thing grass... only ~8-12 football games per year... grass is easy and cheap to replace. It should be a park year around.

Some other guesses: GWCC expands and uses part of the parcel for staging and parking deck, and a new hotel and/or office structure occupies the remainder.

Random question/thought... The FDA building across from Metropolis has bugged me for years. I think I remember 7 or 8 years ago reading on here about a proposed project for that site but obviously nothing ever happened. I'm hoping that it gets developed into something cause that area is such a dead zone and FDA should just move out to Dunwoody or something. Any thoughts/info?

I agreed with you until "FDA should just move out to Dunwoody". Why? There's no reason the FDA can't stay in Midtown but move to a facility more respectful of the urban environment we're trying to build.

That's not the first parcel I would choose to be redeveloped in the area, but I know what you mean; it's got zero street presence.

What exactly do they do in that building anyhow?

What I meant was if they are going to have a facility like the one they're in now then it should be elsewhere. I don't care where they move, lol. Just want something better to go there. They can move down the street for all I care as long as the building is urban...

K.C. firm is top choice to design Falcons stadium

A Kansas City-based architecture firm that designed a new home for New York’s two NFL teams is the top choice to design Atlanta’s new retractable-roof stadium.

The Falcons and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority have chosen 360 Architecture as the “apparent awardee” of the lead architect job, according to a notice entered on the state’s procurement registry. That means negotiations on a fee and other terms will begin immediately. If a deal cannot be reached, the Falcons and the GWCCA would turn to their next choice, which was not named.
A sampling of sports projects on which Kansas City-based firm 360 Architecture has done design work:

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the $1.7 billion home of New York’s two NFL teams, the Giants and Jets

Basrah Sports City, a multi-use complex in Iraq that includes soccer stadiums

Proposed arena in Seattle, which is attempting to lure the NBA’s Sacramento Kings

Rebuilding of Husky Stadium, the University of Washington’s football stadium

Auburn Arena, Auburn University’s basketball facility
