^^^It's such a shame. I'd hold out for 200 ft personally, even if it were to come in the next cycle.

City - too greedy
Developer - hmm, not sure what to make of it yet
Non-profits - really? Not going to put a dime into it??? No capital campaign?

As long as they are still using BIG then everything is fine for 950 Market. It's definitely unfortunate to lose the height and arts center but 120' is still a monster in this lot and I think if the transformation of Market street comes sooner then it is for the better. The nonprofits thing doesn't surprise me..how many art nonprofits have $7.5 million to spare? The city sure isn't about to give away money to developers to pimp out their building's courtyard, instead of spending it on affordable housing. This is probably much better off in the long run without public money, and maybe if the profits are still juicy the developer will keep looking for more Market St lots. On 8th and Market the old Chase Bank and parking lot behind it looks like a great opportunity.

this would be a great time for some targeted philanthropy there, because we're talking about a potentially iconic building here.

Looks like they've installed a Richard Serra piece in the lobby at the SFMOMA addition...

Sinbads

I ate there once - beautiful location, but with the emphasis on the BAD for food and service. Glad to see this fossil go.

and the employees/owners. also, i'm increasingly worrying about how we're de-commercializing the embarcadero with each passing year and decade. this used to be the beating heart of active san francisco and now it's mostly filled with joggers, parks and parking lots. if you ask me, it should be more like ocean avenue on miami beach or kalahaua avenue on waikiki. the less vancouveresque the better.

The owners have known they they will have to close for two years now, so it's not like it is a surprise. If you are worried about the employees being suddenly out of a job, blame the owners for not giving them a specific date far enough in advance, not the port.

Hey Everyone,
I started working on a new project, mapping all of the current and proposed projects in SF in Google Maps. Here is the link:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?m...o.k6ZvzClDvlrw

Thus far I have only tackled the NE quadrant of the city (basically everything east of Divis and north of Market/Central Freeway/Division/Mission Bay Channel). Let me know if there are any projects that I am missing (Im sure there will be several), and I will get working on the rest of the city.

that's great, nice job! thanks for doing that - I know for me it will be a handy reference to get immediate context for projects in parts of the City I am less familiar with.

one thing I noticed is that 450 Hayes can be marked red (red means 'under construction', right?)

edit: also 2198 Market can be red

Awesome work on the map! It's hard to keep track of so many projects. Here are a few I noticed missing (mostly proposals):

* 72 Ellis
* Eddy and Taylor Apartments
* 2155 Webster (construction)
* 2601 Van Ness
* 1481 Post Street
* 1601 Larkin (construction)
* Folsom & Dore
* 525 Harrison
* 923 Folsom
* Octavia R & S
* 360 Berry

Awesome thanks guys. Yes, I realized I forgot to add a key, but as could probably be assumed red is u/c, blue is proposal.

Just moved to the city from Chicago - this makes finding all the developments much easier. Thanks for making it!
