Funny you ask... I'll share a few stories...
4/8/13: As I was in front of
92 WPF, I was walking around the parking lot right in front of the development filming, in between the Regis and the stores, a dude in a white BMW 525i rolled up on me... Asked me who I was with, what I was taking pictures for and why... When I said I was just a dude interested in construction filming for my own purposes, he told me I wasn't allowed to do so from the lot as that is against the law i.e. soliciting. He became verbally agressive when I stood my ground. He said I can film using a telephoto lens from across the street. HA! I kindly informed him that wasn't possible given my equipment, said OK, and walked slowly to the sidewalk, not across the street. I watched this man for a few mins and observed him talking to someone else in a tan Jeep Cherokee. I assume the parking lot is guarded by a rent-a-cop. Do they really have big problems with people parking and walking to the Atlanta History Center? Or did they simply have take issue with my feet pounding their asphalt? Rather snobbish and pretentious if you ask me. But I guess it's private property and that's that. Just why the agression and rudeness?
At 100 6th St, a very nice construction worker observed me filming and asked "amigo, can you move back?" as his responsibility was clearly my safety. The crane was lifting a the large section (as seen in the video) from floor 3 to 4. I stepped back 10 paces and that was sufficient.
Nov 2012 outside
Skyhouse: I walked over to the Westwood College bldg across Spring to see the vantage... As I was about to begin filming Skyhouse, I noticed "two suits" in sunglasses walking diagonally across the intersection of Spring and 12th, in my direction. Walking up on me, one suit immediately begins asking me what I was doing, what I was filming, who I was... I said, filming the construction across the street, for educational purposes, and it didn't matter who I was.. I said, "who are you to be asking me who I am and what I am filming." I knew this was not the Police, or Homeland Security or FBI... only one talked, he did NOT identify himself... He was short, balding and spoke with a foreign accent, his suit was green and brown, I could see his earpiece... He looked to be ~50 and the other suit ~20... I didn't answer any more of questions so he stopped asking them and slowly walked away (to a post by the building entrance) observing me as I continued filming... Last time I checked it was legal to film a construction site from a public place! Plus there was a real APD officer patrolling Skyhouse and took no issue with my presence or behavior. Now get this; while I was walking back across Spring, and down 12th, I noticed the two suits were visually tracking me & talking on their radios... When I doubled back to get another shot, they started walking back towards me, got to the sidewalk, and re-posted up. I filmed the necessary shots and made my way back to the car. A google search later reveals this building also houses the Israeli Consulate General's ATL Office... Guess I know who the suits were!!!!!! Foreign agents harassing Americans... I've asked cops regarding filming and they always say no problem, sure, as long as you stay out of the way and remain safe.
