As Kevin stated reguarding the Austonian lights, they may be be for decoration, but why are they on all day? I go to Austin high school and I always see them on, is there any information on this topic?

Did anyone catch the updated statistical area definitions released by the Office of Management and Budget a couple of days ago?

We are now the:

Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area

which, in turn, is now a part of the:

Austin-Round Rock-Marble Falls, TX Combined Statistical Area (pop. 1,697,090)

A taller downtown and now a larger statistical area---this town is definitely booming any way you look at it!!

(Our neighbors to the south also got re-named: San Antonio-New Braunfels, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area)

I was hoping Burnet Co. would be added to the MSA. This means it will not be counted as part of the Metro population. The CSA population is typically not
used in comparing cities.

There's still a possibility that Burnet County will be added to the MSA if 2010 Census data show at least 25% of residents commute to Williamson or Travis counties for work. (The updates announced this week still look at 2000 county to county worker flow). In 2000, almost 22% of Burnet county residents commuted to Travis/Williamson for work, so I'm guessing that the 2010 number will probably be well past 25%.

Nothing changed regarding our MSA with the exception of the name. San Marcos, along with Austin and Round Rock, is now considered one of the Primary Cities of the MSA.

The only other change is Burnet County is now a Micropolitan Statistical Area, which along with the Austin-Round-Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area forms the new Austin-Round Rock-Marble Falls Combined Statistical Area. The population gain is only 44,488, or extremely minuscule. There is however a decent chance that Blanco and Lee counties will follow suit, and between the three add up to a more substantial increase in the population.

I disagree. Often times the CSA population is used, at least in many comparisons I have seen.

Sometimes I see the CSA used for Denver and Salt Lake (Front Range and Wasatch Front).

The fog is neat, but when it's foggy like this downtown disappears from our neighborhood views.

yup it sure does, the fog has been so heavy that sometimes it apears that we have no skyline, Austin would be boring looking

But the cool thing about fog is, if you are going TO downtown, the skyline eventually shows up. And it comes out of nowhere! Bam!
