spire

Fury,
On that pic that you diagrammed the tiers, can you indicate where the bottom of the spire is?

Hi sw.

Tier 22 has the 2 larger wings we see up now (the wing facing the crane will have 2 more sections erected after jacking if they go by the new plan from a week ago) and 1 small wing that is approx. the same size as the pinnacle pipe (2.1m. dia.) - the pipe will be enclosed.

Tier 23 has the 1 larger wing that is up now and 2 small wings - the pipe will be enclosed.

Tier 24 will have 3 small wings that will be jacked with the pinnacle pipe - the pipe will be enclosed.

Tier 25 will have 2 small wings that will be jacked with the pipe - one third of the pipe will be exposed.

Tier 26 will have 1 wing that will be jacked with the pipe - two thirds of the pipe will be exposed.

Tiers 27 to 30 are the pinnacle tiers with no wings and diameters of 2.1m., 1.5m., 1.35m., and 1.2m.

Hi ht.

Not sure if you are asking where the bottom is now or after top out so I will answer both.

After top out the base of the pinnacle pipe is at the start of section 20B at 675.3m. I call it the pinnacle pipe as the pinnacle per se starts at tier 27.

I have no clear pics of where the bottom of the pipe is right now. Although recent info seems to say it is all up there and was being added as the steel levels/sections were being erected. If it is not all up there they will have to add under what is already jacked (as was the original plan) between jacking stages which seems like a more difficult method.

Anyway assuming it is all up there here is the math:
The entire pinnacle and pinnacle pipe is 142.7m. long (818.0 -675.3 when topped out).
Right now the top of the pinnacle is at ~730m. (the top of what we see sticking up right now is the very top of the pinnacle). So ~730 - 142.7 = ~587.3.
The top of the concrete (the start of tier 16) is at 585.7m.

So if all the pipe is up there right now the bottom of it is only ~1.6m. above the concrete.

So when is the projected topping-off date? Or is that being kept a KFC-secret?

Wow, by the looks at it, the window-washers on this one will be some busy SOB's.

the burj has robotic window cleaners

I hope they start developing the area around the tower soon, it looks so lonely and isolated out there in the middle of the sand =(

^^ As long as it takes the windows of neighboring bldgs to get dirty.

I can see a couple of Imre Solt's pics being made into posters, esp. the one where the tower is in the center and, off to the right, is a 50-storey(?) with the two white masts on top.

Any chance that the French "Spiderman" could try and scale this sucker?
My "Spidie Senses" say he might try it, but wouldn't this be fun to fly a Cessna 172 around to have a good close look at this beautiful piece of work?

Oh how good it would be to stick around for a couple of centuries to see what happens next with some of these super mega buildings that are going up.

But how far is The Pentominium (120 fl.) site from Burj? 42 floors short, but still a giant.
