Was in the west loop this weekend. This building really makes its presence felt. Also, the amount of people out on Randolph and Madison was impressive. I know the weather had a lot to do with it, but still.....compared to just a few years ago...it is really amazing.

I was there yesterday as well and I agree, you could see the building from many vantage points, and the only thing offensive about it is the temporary yellow construction screening I think it fits in nicely.

The podium on 1035 W Van Buren kills me. Is it really necessary to have that much parking?

I'm not a fan of parking podiums, but if you work in the burbs but want to live in the city, that location is pretty much perfect since it's next to 290.

No, it is not. I'm not sure how many spaces here exactly, but from the size of the garage podium, my guess is that they probably could have gotten away with anywhere from 30-50% less capacity.....

Agreed. I'm not a fan of having a car oriented city, but there are many people who work in the suburbs or far flung parts of town who want to live in these areas. It's a bit presumptuous to assume that the people with cars here are using them all the time. I have a large handful of friends in Chicago with cars only because they work in far flung areas of the city or suburbs, but live in areas like downtown, Lakeview, etc. They almost never use their cars outside of getting to and from work.

With that being said, the podium is pretty ugly.

In the renderings the podium was to be completely wrapped in the same grid as the upper facade, with screening in between to somewhat obscure the ramps. Hopefully that is still part of the project.

Yes, there was a facade mockup of the podium screening that was on site for awhile. You could see it from Van Buren.

It will be really refined. Probably one of the more attractive podiums in the city. Morris Adjmi doesn't mess around.

Honestly though, the podium doesn't bother me. This building is along an expressway. Nobody will pay top dollar to live 15' away from roaring traffic without some buffer. If all podiums were designed this nicely, I might not hate them as much.

^Me too. Fits in well with the neighborhood. Reminds me of something you'd see in Chelsea in NYC.

Not often that you see high rises built on giant parking podiums like that in NYC. The actual tower is nice, but I can't get past that podium, lol.
