University Avenue is a three-quarter loop...

University is a bit of an exception though. In general the street pattern in Waterloo is more orderly than that of Kitchener.

Looks like for Freddy, the bend in the river affects our griddyness. In the core and where it crosses we line up well, but as you get away from the core, it tends to line up more with the river. The curves of the highways also seem to affect it, along with the valley walls. (the outer burbs outside of the core tend to go straight up/down the valley walls so they'll be straight but not grid aligned with the core).

For Edmonton there are only a few roads that deviate from the "Grid Pattern". Ft Road follows the old cart path to Ft Sask. Jasper Ave follows the river bank.
St Albert Trail follows the old wagon track to St Albert but everything else follows the grid until you get to the new neighborhoods then is just F,,,,,

I’d think that anything promised within a year away from election is considered vote-buying.

This is true. However, if the same party gets back in, there is no reason to expect it won't happen.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Unless they get their butts in gear and let the contracts, I fully expect the UCP to put the breaks on any NDP spending.

The deal to permit construction through the Tsuu T'ina First Nation west of Calgary was contingent on construction starting within a fairly short timeframe. I can't see any scenario where construction on the highway is stalled.

That section of the freeway has been under construction for a long time now. I can't see the last leg being delayed as there's way too much need and support for it but I'm sure some rural MLAs will push to kill everything in cities as it doesn't impact them short-term.

I agree Corn, but the only way to guarantee it won't be stalled is to get the contract signed ASAP.

The breakup fees will be such that the UCP will have no choice but to let it go ahead.

I heard today the city is moving quickly on Airport Trail (securing money to buy land, etc.).

The UCP will risk losing a lot of support if they campaign on cancelling major projects that have been needed for a long time. Very few people want to go back to the stupid days of only building when times were good where we ended up paying way too much for the amount of work that was actually done. Building now is saving us a lot of money down the road.

They won't campaign on cancelling major projects... they'll do what Doug Ford did: campaign on huge tax cuts AND more spending programs with the claim that "efficiencies" can fix the resulting massive hole in the budget, and refuse to ever elaborate what "efficiencies" means during the campaign, yet they'll get away with it and win anyway, then cancel things once they get into office.

As this is the highway tread, I can't see the UCP (If they get in) canceling the Calgary ring road. There is also substantial federal money involved. Expansion to the Henday maybe. There are no other major Highway projects other than the peace river bridge that will be an election issue. Hospitals is another question. I would expect them to Cancel the new Edmonton South Heath Campus. Or they will F it up like the PCs did with Grande Prairie Hospital. (Still not open 5 years later).

I hope that by the time they try to do this, Doug has been in power long enough to do the damage that will scare them away from voting for them.
