Exactly I have a hard time seeing where a 400 units tower with a showel ready space (they want to start in 2024) and who isnt already owned by Heafey or Brigil in DT hull would be.

My guess would be the Victoria/Notre-Dame/Papineau/Champlain block. Brigil owns The 4 Points across the street, and part of the block where they had proposed Place des Peuples, but I don't believe they own that one.

Apparently, the heritage building behind that, facing Maisonneuve, is for sale.

Article about that plot of land, and the heritage building, the former Académie Sainte-Marie.

I believe the Académie might be unoccupied now, though it still looks to be well-maintained.

Hopefully it will find an occupant soon, as it and the former Brasseurs du Temps (former Château d'Eau) are two very nice refurbished heritage buildings in Vieux-Hull that should definitely be used for something.

So Alta-Vista losing two of its community centres over this. Vanier lost one. When will Kanata, Barrhaven and Orleans take some weight off the backs of low income central areas?

And the City just bought a former archdiocese residence. Any reasons that can't be used? It will be years before they have plans for the place, so why not house people there in the meantime?

Kind of ironic that China has a whole bunch of empty fully built cities, yet continue to build like crazy, and in Canada (and most of the western world) we struggle to keep up with demand, taking years to build anything.

There's got to be something between the excruciatingly slow and expensive Canadian way and the lighting quick and cheap, but probably quite sketchy, Chinese way.

And it's not jut China. I remember seeing a video from Japan where they fixed within 2 days a massive sink hole comparable to what we had happen on Rideau.

Yeah, but I suspect each policy change to speed up the process would be met with significant objections.

I suspect that in China nimbyism is a non issue as is the extensive public consultations and environmental assessments we are used to.

Looks like it is called Projet Colombe, total of 93 units and common activity areas over 10 floors, for 55yo+ and 75yo+ with varying levels of autonomy, with subsidized/affordable rents.
