that's true, though i'm less concerned by things you couldn't build again for reasons of accessibility or fire code.

Winnipeg's newest tower crane



Looks like Bockstael set up a tower on Jefferson for Apartment in front of Lucky's Supermarket

That might've been one of those floor plate jacked buildings.

Build it on the ground and jack up as each floor gets poured. I'd have to dig up the history. They're all around town.

Meh. The Seattle example is barely a couple blocks from an area with plenty of tall buildings. Zoning law obviously don't restrict height everywhere, just in the historic district. Same as Winnipeg. There are plenty of places to build tall buildings here but I happen to agree that it's worth having different height restrictions in different areas. There is a place for height and a place for height restrictions. Context is everything. Tall buildings don't always make enjoyable cities even if they are popular with some folks here.

A better example might be those apartments on Sherbrook that burned down this winter. I doubt those could be built again due to setback requirements and parking minimums.

I assume it's the crane they used for the Osborne St building. I also assume they own the crane, so maybe not that odd. Just odd for suburban Winnipeg.

Way cheaper to use your own crane than to rent one, also building is cast in place concrete from what i can see so far so tower crane the way to go on that

All those little red brick apartment building you see in the inner city would be completely illegal today. Density. Parking. Setbacks. All not allowed. That’s why it’s so sad when one is lost.
