From the surrounding environment shown in the video, it looks to be located at the Meadowbrook TRAX stop, at about 3800 S. West Temple:

Good, I didn't really like the development, so I'm glad to see it won't be built downtown.

Neighbors could be annexed into Salt Lake City

Some of Salt Lake City's neighbors must soon decide whether or not to join the city. Millcreek Township and Magna could be annexed by Salt Lake City, if there is a consensus.

It'd be a smart move, especially for a declining town like Magna.

For that area I think it's a plus, but yes, I wouldn't want it right in downtown.

Right, it works for that area, but it isn't something that I think would look good downtown.

So very interesting that just a few weeks ago we were discussing that exact topic, and those exact townships. Looks like we have the pulse of the city pretty much dead on, right here on the forum. Maybe those bringing it up read our comments.

Very Nice work Urbanboy

I always liked that plan for the theater best. I really like how you are reusing the existing building and using its features to hang the banners on. I would love to see this on Main Street. It would also be hard to miss these giant banners on Main. Cool stuff

I like the Meadowbrook development too, but I thought it would look great in Market Station, or even across Main Street to the west. It would really make an awesome district there---that is if Market Station every gets going. Does anyone know if that is still starting construction this winter?

Urbanboy: I like that spot very much for the theater as well. I don't know if I would use the white building at all in the plan though, and I certainly wouldn't want to touch the building that was housing MUAH. I've always had a crazy, soft spot for the white building; and though the exterior of the building is a mess, the interior is stunning. You should really take a look at it through the front doors next time you are on Main Street. It's stunning, and ought to be saved at any expense.

I think the best opportunity on Main are the two buildings between MUAH and the Tribune building--this space could be used for a lobby, and pass through to Regent Street. It looks like a tight fit, but I think the auditorium of the theater could be placed in the NAC space along Regent Street. It squeezes out the mixed use space, though I have a hard time picturing that working along Regent Street at present. Instead, the Tribune building could be refurbished into mixed-use. I think the property is full of potential--it should not be sitting vacant.

I would sketch that out, but don't know where I can acquire an aerial image of the block. Hope you all follow my drift though. I'm really hoping this site is chosen as the spot for the theater.

Boy, I sure hope they're listening to us Future Mayor. There are a lot of outstanding points made on this forum, and from an excellent cross section of people. I have high hopes that the city leaders will take the time to develop and implement a concise and beneficial plan for annexing the Millcreek and Magna townships. Also, the time necessary should be taken to educate the public on a plan and why the townships should be brought into the fold of our beautiful capital.

Yes, I have seen the inside of the MUAH building and I do think it should be preserved. If you look closely at the sight plan, it looks as though the museum is incorporated into the project, and I think I've read as much.

Remember, by the time the theater project is complete, City Creek Center will either open soon after, or already be in business. Regent street will be one of the City's extensions of City Creek Center, leading to Gallivan Plaza; and hopefully Main Street will be the other.

To get an aerial shot go to maps.google.com, then try both the "satellite" and "street view" options.

Sorry, I'm a numbskull, and can't lift the image from google maps to edit it.

I agree with Regent Street having great potential, especially to connect Gallivan Plaza and City Creek Center, but I'm completely unconvinced it would work well for people living there. IMO, it has one of the worst views in the city.

That is one hulking, ugly, oppressive, unfriendly garage. I wouldn't want to live across from it.

I think there are a couple other flaws in the proposal as presented, though I did notice that most of the MUAH building was saved. I like the white building, but I can't imagine using an esoteric, 1960-'s, mid-rise office building for the lobby of the theater, no matter how much I personally like it. I also don't really know what the rear of the Tribune building is like; I assume it was built with the tower, though I'm sure there isn't much of anything interesting there--the entire property would be a great adaptive re-use. I think the theater proposal could happen in this area with a bit less demolition, and more creative use of the areas that are available.

Something like this (please excuse the clumsy rendering):

Grand Foyer, Main Street through to Regent Street. New pedestrian access to Regent street along 'Orpheum Alley'. Black box theater to the north on Regent St., Broadway Theater to the south. Mixed-use renovation of the Tribune building.

Millcreek township and magna would add about 100,000 people to SLC.

Hotels' sale promised to be seamless
Broker says sale reflects well on SLC's economic development

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_10482613

...But in a larger corporate sense, Tantleff said, the sale reflects well on the standing of Salt Lake City's economic development efforts and the vitality of its hotel industry - especially given the economy's current struggles.
"In a time when people have a pick of where to invest, a big company that picked Salt Lake City is validation of what the community has been working to achieve," saidTantleff.

Three Hotel Monacos in Denver and Chicago and Salt Lake City (above) - with 606 rooms - sold for around $190 million. All three hotels still will be managed by the San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. (Trent Nelson/The Salt Lake Tribune )
