[QUOTE=It will also be nice to get rid of perhaps some of the most dumpy looking apartments in downtown salt lake.[/QUOTE]

I actually really love those old apartments along 300 S, I’ll be heartbroken to see them go.

I hope the street engagement is way better than what the pictures indicate. If there is good street engagement then this is a great step forward.

I'm excited to see this development come to fruition particularly along 300 West. However, I think most of us share your disappointment about the apartments fronting 300 South. Unfortunately, like so many of the structures from that era the electrical and plumbing updating would be a nightmare, not to mention the seismic upgrade. Seismically the building's interiors would probably have to be completely gutted, much like the Brooks Arcade rehab, which is incredibly expensive. The element that is so important to the visual charm of those apartments is obviously those front porches and balconies. Right now they're a bit dilapidated looking. They should remove and restore them to their original beauty, then reattach them to the 300 S. engagement of the new body massings. While it won't be as poignant as a 100% rehab, at least it will provide a worthy tribute and visual interest and charm that would be missed with just another contemporary development. Any firm with the least bit of designer talent would be able to accomplish something special here without going to a huge extra expense.

Yeah, not to mention the fact that the front porches and balconies are made of wood and look completely rotten. So any work done would be more 'recreation' as opposed to 'restoration' anyway.

I’d rather have a recreation than what’s been proposed.

This is very cool. Could you do one of these images of the skyline from where 400 S curves into 500 S on the way up to Rice-Eccles? (approximately 500 S 1100 E) I've always loved that view when driving down from the U into downtown.

Does anyone know specifically where this project is going at the intersection of Main and 700 South? What is it replacing?

I thought this was to replace the AT&T store. So many, it's hard to keep them on in order!

Thats correct, 6th & Main is replacing the AT&T store and the Seven O2 apartments are replacing Specialized Sales & Leasing just down the road.
