He firmly believes height expresses social progress. I look at the world's tallest list and see a bunch of regressive states taking advantage of desperation (i.e. importing a labour force with false promises and than treating them like slaves) to build monuments to themselves or, in New York's case, the ballooning divide between the classes. What progress is being made when the NY super towers are only economical at unit prices equal to housing 100 RGI families in a new build apartment complex.

YYC is the primary hub for WestJet of course. But since you asked, a few are... Air Canada, Korean Air, Alaska Airlines, Delta, United, Hahn, British Airways, Lufthansa, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, KLM, China Air, British Airways, Austrian Air, etc.

I did indeed miss Telus. Thanks for the catch. But Sun Life is on the list as One York St. And PWC was below my completely arbitrary cut off list for height.

If you don't love tall buildings why are you on a skyscraper site?

The same argument that's brought up every time when we all know that despite the site's name, it is primarily a community of urban development enthusiasts, of which tall buildings can be a part of the discussion.

Skyscraper is also an ambiguous term that doesn't distinguish between a 150m or 400m building. I could be the biggest skyscraper fan in the world and only like buildings less than a certain height because I get vertigo looking at anything taller.

Yea it's ridiculous to say that if you legitimately like something you'll like it unconditionally regardless of quality or context. For instance, some of the people who love wine the most are the biggest wine critics demanding the best and refusing to drink what they consider sub par since they have such refined tastes. Most wouldn't go to a grocery store and buy a box of generic wine because it was bigger or cheaper. Being a skyscraper-phile who loves them in the specific context in which they're matched exquisitely to their physical setting and that don't represent harm to their social and economic contexts perfect sense. If you ask me it sounds like the perfect recipe for great urban form.

I don't mind WS's critiques. He's old and he's grumpy.

Eventually we will all be that way.

I like WS opinions. I'm glad we don't argue as much anymore. Maybe I'm getting old and grumpy to.

I'm not anymore grumpy than the grumpiness that ensues when a tower is revised shorter. I appreciate height which is more love than those that only see height in number of metres. The same people super excited over a 140 metre tower 15 years are now bored of anything below 250 metres. It's always a hot, dissatisfying, three seconds of ecstasy with them. You could built a space tether and they will eventually get dissatisfied it's only 40kms instead of 50kms long because China has one 60kms long.

You know why? Because height alone has no depth in its plot. It's not enough to create a lasting storey.

"Lasting storey" - rimshot on the snare drum for that storey.
