I think that's a beautiful render

though, could just be the angle but that specific building looks like the 19F one, not the 27F one

It is certainly very eye catching though. Can't wait to see what the final renders look like, whenever TN is ready to show them off

I think that's a render form the original competition maybe? If you look at the sketches TNSE provided at their presser last week, where they show the possible public plaza uses. It shows the same building layout as the video Chipman showed. So the same layout we're all used to. I wouldn't get too excited about thsi one just yet.

Also it says at that link TNS "was" a great opportunity. As in they bid on it, now they're discussing it since it's going ahead and in the news.

I'm wondering if some of the work being completed, ie: apparent piling/concrete work I seen last week, might be for a tower crane foundation? Specifically at the NE corner.

Lots of digging be completed on site recently. Can't wait for the upcoming presser to shed some light.

That that n/e corner has been excavated and backfilled a number of times. I was wondering at one time if the S&J excavation crew had nothing better to do the way they were back and forth there.

From what I saw, they dug down to remove the previous foundation, then back filled so that they could install the shoring for the basement. I'm assuming there is going to be at least one level of parking under the facility.

A family member is working on the plans for TNS, there is (surprisingly) going to be 3 levels of underground parking.

That is surprising since the Hydro Tower just kitty-corner had all kinds of water table issues. Great if it works though.

that would be shocking...the water table is too high in downtown.

interestingly a major cause of this is the closure of the Canada packers site....it used to draw so much water that it lowered the water table in the city.

Somewhere on the internet there is a report on Winnipeg ground water that I saw a few years ago. I was surprised by the number of companies that used well water that are no longer here. Besides the packing plants, Shell apparently used a lot of water when they operated their St. Boniface refinery for cooling.

The Delta hotel / Lakeview Square complex is about 1 block south from the hydro building and it has a few levels of underground parking so I wonder if they are pumping 24/7 to keep their parking dry?

perhaps they could use the water being pumped as part of an open geotehermal system? If they have to pump the ground water they might as well make use of it.

I'm assuming the issue is construction cost and continual dewatering? If you really really want to, you can build down as deep as you want.

Not really an apples to apples comparison, but WTC in New York is built basically in the ocean. They have water proof tubs built way down below sea level. I would assume they are still dewatering. But it was quite the construction process from what I seen. Building slurry walls in deep trenches, basically forcing the water out with concrete.

Yes. They have 2 I believe. Portage place has 2 underground floors. I think the apartments just north of Portage place also has multiple underground levels. I'm not sure if any place has 3 underground? Maybe one of those towers in Osborne village.

And didn't one of assiniboine's buried tributaries run close to that site? (though i might be confusing myself with colony creek further upstream)

Carlton Square (aka Delta Hotel) one block south of TNS has around six levels of underground parking. I think that is the most of any location in downtown. 201 Portage has three. Most places have two.
