Exactly. Qc's scoreboard will be 35-by-35 ft. If I'm not mistaken San Jose's 18-by-24 feet.

http://sharks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=63387

It should be quite larger. And Tampa Bay is 28-by-50 ft.

They Should have done something different with the seating patterns in QC. That solid blue just looks tired. And I'm sorry to say it but Look at Edmonton's interior! Its far from typical. I am happy for Quebec I'm really glad they have a new arena I really am. But the interior design and exterior design is both questionable to put it lightly, when put beside both Rogers place and Console I feel like QC got shafted. I really don't think that arena is going to be a major pull for the NHL.

My absolute most favorite scoreboard in the league belongs to the excel energy center in Minnesota. Its the perfect size huge yet not distracting and it's one of the only designs in the league that stands out. The pistons have an absolutely incredible board. Its probable close to the size of Tampa and Colorado's but its just so much cooler. A part of me knows true north is gonna do something really underwhelming and simple. I hope they do something way out of the ordinary. The whole 4 square screens with 2 round ribbons above and below is just so boring.

Isnt the interior of quebec very similar to consol energy centre?

Also remember consol and rogers are being built for sure bet nhl teams. Qc may have held a bit back because an nhl team isnt a for sure thing. Kinda like the mts centre did, but qc is a few steps above the original mts centre in 2005.

They might also alter the seats when they have an NHL team and know what it's colours are.

You can see this in action yourself in October during the few dates both the Argos and Leafs play at the same time. Union Station has way more double blue Argo fans filing out to watch the game. Etobicoke and the suburbs are the base for the Argos and sticking a stadium anywhere that is accessible for 10 home games does not matter as much as you think. Football stadiums have shown to have next to no impact on downtowns.

80 arena home dates (NHL + NBA)
80 Blue Jays dates in the spring and summer
30 TFC games (including friendlies and non MLS)

10 Argo games.

It isn't close. Football is always a destination sport. We just don't understand it here in lowly football Toronto. Back in Sask people would drive 6hrs + to go catch a Rider game, you see similar travel in the USA. You are more willing to do that for a sport that only gives you 8-10 dates, because of that location isn't as important as you think. Nobody is driving 6hrs to catch a Wednesday night Leafs vs Wild game in December.
But again, what's the source for that information? Other than anecdotal observations at Union Station I mean. The Jays, Leafs and Raptors play so many more games that people from farther away have the luxury of not going to weekday games. That said, there's a pretty big stampede to Union Station after Jays games too. But if so many Argo fans are taking the GO train to games, then a location away from a GO hub doesn't make much sense. And if football fans drive six hours to see a game, then nobody's going to avoid going because of a half hour train ride.

As for location not being as important as you think, well yes and no. A move to the suburbs wouldn't accomplish anything. Football being downtown isn't about revitalizing downtown. Toronto doesn't need any help with that. It's about making the stadium as accessible and visible as possible to the most people in the city. Toronto is much more centralized than most American cities with suburban NFL stadiums and has a stronger regional rail system that's getting massively expanded. Moving the Argos to the suburbs would take them away from the action and growth potential. It might not necessarily hurt the team, but it sure wouldn't help it.

For me, it's a hard to get too critical of the QC interior until it's completely finished. I think they have a lot of good going on and I appreciate some of the modern touches being worked in. I also like the uniform bowl formations, as I think it can create a really good atmosphere. The sightlines look great too.

MTS Centre was built like an AHL rink but with an extra 5,000 seats, whereas the Videotron Centre clearly has the top-notch NHL fit and finish right from the get-go. It might not be the single most opulent NHL arena, but it looks like it is definitely on par with what has been built in the league over the last 10 years.

MTSC will be getting a new scoreboard this summer, to replace the existing 11-year old model which was pretty basic even by 2004 standards. Here's what it will look like - not one of the mega-scoreboards but a fair bit bigger than the old one, and in HD. Judging by how long scoreboards seem to last, this is what we can expect to have hanging from the rafters in Winnipeg for at least the next 15 years...

Bigger is not always better. Having been to a Cowboys game and viewing their massive score board, conceding that it is truly impressive, I found it to be quite a distraction when the game was on. I found myself actually watching the screen instead of the live game. What made it even funnier is that we had great seats row 16 on the 5 yard line.

As long as the quality of the HD is top drawer I don't see the need for a 100 ft scoreboard.

Actually in the MTS Centre a big board would hurt them more than help them. They have to be really careful of the size with that building or it could look really stupid. I don't mean true North should go huge I mean they Should do something different than the typical boring scoreboards, Like Minnesota did with the wood grain ect.

I love ribbon boards lol I'm a big fan of them but I am also a bit younger than some on this forum

No.

IGF has some of the biggest jumbotrons in Canada, but at least 1/2 the surface area of each is taken up by sponsor logos and basic score information. So you're reduced to watching replays on a display the fraction the size of the entire screen.

MTSC is even worse. I find they show replays extremely sparingly, no doubt because they interrupt the chain of ads and promos.

Ribbon boards are completely useless... the only time they flash non-advertising related information is when you get some statement of the obvious on them like "POWER PLAY", "GOAL" or "TOUCHDOWN" on them. I get why the teams have them ($$$) but they add nothing to the game experience. Liking them is a bit like saying you like TV commercial breaks.

Tim Horton's Field

As much as this stadium is maligned and WAY past the expected delivery date, I like how it turned out and how it incorporates into the neighbourhood

Some great shots from Patrick Berry (TravelPatB) posted on the TiCats site.

There's been some installed for some time now. I know there's a few close ups kicking around the arena thread in the Edmonton section, but if I'm honest, I'm too lazy to go digging.

It sure does despite all the initial protestations at the drawings. And despite the crazy shenanigans of the builders stopping and starting, this story should have a happy ending. Also I think the thing still came in on budget didn't it?

I hate the advertisements on the ribbon boards. I love what they add to the pre game and anthems. I love seeing them go crazy when theirs a goal. And I'm more talking about Winnipeg where they defiantly utilize the ribbon boards to their full potential.
