I spoke at length with my contact at the city yesterday. They believe that it will go on the ballot (obviously), but that the support FOR the CC will be overwhelming. The entire city wants it, and it's paid for by HOT, not by raising our taxes. I was told the city is not too concerned and will push on. "Bill uses these types of issues to raise money to keep SOS going".

I would expect after it passes, he will just file more lawsuits to fight it. They will ignore him.

I actually appreciate "watch dogs", and I wish we focused more on spending. I believe for the taxes we spend, we don't receive enough. I just wish Bill would go back to Saving Our Springs.....Barton Creek Greenbelt is so unloved. It breaks my heart.

That's great to hear. I just don't want any delays. This Bunch character is real pain in the ass.

i agree, but let's not act like this generation's refusal to pass the baton to the next generation is highly problematic. he needs to go be old and enjoy his millions. leave the rest of us alone.

Are they really doing site prep while demo is underway? It appears so in the above pics.

This is officially under construction because diaphragm wall construction is underway. Block 185 was built with this method.

What happens if the ballot measure passes and people vote against the CC? Would it stay incomplete or demolish the parts in construction and leave it as an empty lot?

AUSTIN, Texas — A group trying to stop Austin's convention center expansion handed over thousands of petition signatures on Monday.

Leaders with the Austin United PAC said they've collected more than 21,000 signatures, exceeding the 20,000 needed to force a public vote. The signatures were gathered at local venues including Barton Springs, the Vortex Theater, the Paramount Theater, the Soup Peddler, Chicano Park and a wide variety of local shops and restaurants.

They want to pause the $1.6 billion project for seven years, or until voters approve it.

The city clerk will now have to verify the signatures. If approved, voters could decide on the issue in May.

It's shocking that one only needs 2% of the population to force a vote. This whole situation is asinine!
