Prediction: Salo will slip on a banana.

jkjk, I think maybe the canucks might go for another D-man on deadline or might just depend on solid rookies.

I don't think they're going to move for another D-man. Most or all of them should be healthy by the time the playoffs start, and the cap situation is tight.

Unfortunately the freakish injury streak might cost them the President's Trophy, or even the conference lead, but I'd rather see a strong playoff run. No sense in trading away players for short-term gain. Fortunately the Canucks have given themselves such a massive cushion that they can afford to absorb quite a few losses between now and April.

Canucks to move AHL affiliate to Abbotsford?

Abbotsford Times March 10, 2011 12:39 PM

Speculation about where the Vancouver Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate will land should the NHL move back to Winnipeg is sure to pick up today.

CKNW has reported that talks are underway about possibly moving the Calgary Flames affiliate from Abbotsford to Chilliwack, citing a deal to move the WHL Bruins to Victoria, which is reportedly 70 per cent complete.

It was also reported that talks have also begun about the prospect of moving the Canucks affiliate to Abbotsford, as the NHL gets closer to having to relocate the moribund Phoenix Coyotes franchise to Winnipeg, current home of the AHL Moose.

The Abbotsford Heat are in the second year of a 10-year deal with the Flames.

The Canucks' affiliate has been the biggest draw in terms of attendance at Heat games. In eight regular season meetings between the Heat and Moose at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, the average fan attendance has been slightly more than 6,394. That's compared to the Heat's overall average attendance records of 3,797.

Having the Canucks' farm team in the Lower Mainland would kill the Heat. I don't know why the Heat wouldn't just pick up and move somewhere else entirely... like Glendale.

My vote is to move them to the Pacific Coliseum. I bet you would get way bigger crowds than in Abbotsford.

Agreed, that would be too cool. Neither Abby nor Chilliwack have very big stadiums, even though they are new. the Coliseum would soundly trump them both, and it has strong ties to the franchise.

But this suddenly makes me hope that Surrey builds a stadium in Whalley. Imagine - the Canucks at one end of the Expo Line, and their AHL team at the other end.

And it is a shame that any of this might threaten the welfare of the Giants.

Getting the Canucks affiliate would be the best thing that ever happened to Whalley.

Build it and they might come.

I wouldn't be opposed to having the Canucks' farm team nearby. Surrey is closer than Abby, so being able to call up a prospect in case of emergency, would be ideal. Would save traveling costs. Could just drive down to Rogers Arena. LOL.

two AHL teams would not survive in the fraser valley and lower mainland!

maybe send the heat to Saksatchewan.

Hell of a game. Easily one of the most exciting of the season so far. Penalties nearly cost Vancouver big-time though.

Could be a preview of the conference finals... *fingers crossed*

Nucks lose back-to-back games vs Edmonton. Sign of things to come?

There just too lazy, not motivated, I suggest the team to pick it up so that Dank can rack up points for Art Ross.

Why muck it up, piss them off and risk injury to our players? We've got all to lose. They don't.

Canucks finish off the best regular season in franchise history with a wild 3-2 OT win over Calgary. We'll find out tomorrow who the first round opponent will be. Bring on the playoffs!

And Dallas just choked in the most important game of their season, so the Canucks' opponent in the opening round of the 2011 playoffs will be...the Chicago Blackhawks.
