If the government department responsible for highway development could make a agreement with Maine and Quebec named route east to west that I saw years back Woodstock would look appealing to me to move there

Something may be cooking at the Sussex potash mine, according to the TJ. Province tight lipped.

I’m surprised that haven’t opened it again sooner .. with the war in Ukraine and sanction on Russian there has to be a shortage somewhere.

Margin wasn't strong enough for the previous operator to come back. Fertilizer is AFAIK not subject to any sanctions.

I thought they flooded the mine when they left. I assumed they could not use the mine after that. Maybe they can recomission

Flooding the mine isn't the end of it, if anything it was a result of shutting down all the pumps that kept it from flooding in the first place. The equipment in the mine will all be ruined, but they'd probably need to replace all of that to re-open anyway.

They flooded the older of the two IIRC. Newer one still has a skeleton crew keeping lightson and performing mostly surface maintenance. Or maybe I have it backwards.

I think OSCO or Stescon just did a pretty big retrofit up there recently, but that was related to something still used by Saskatchewan potash in route to the port.

In Woodstock, it was just posted that Kojax (along the TCH) is going to be closing their Quiznos restaurant at the end of the month. Their contract with the chain is up then and they've decided not to renew it.

They do seem to be saying there will be something new coming soon, so hopefully they have a new restaurant chain in the works for the space.

There was some discussion back about how Bridgewater missed a huge opportunity with its mall, essentially wasting space along the river. The town is now trying to rectify that with this proposal:

An impressive proposal for Bridgewater.

Bridgewater has tremendous potential as the regional service centre for the south shore and only an hours drive from Halifax. The LaHave River is a tremendous resource. I hope this eventually gets approved.

In the original downtown development plan released a decade ago, there was a long term plan to put another bridge where the last new building in that row is. I wonder if that is now dead?

This would be a huge (positive) change for the town. The mall has been chopped up into various pieces, and while I wouldn't say it's on life support, it's a shell of what it once was.

I've also lost count of the new housing being planned/already approved in Bridgewater and immediate vicinty. It must be over 2,000 units at this point.

Is another bridge really necessary?

I've never been to Bridgewater but the first time I looked at it on Google Maps I was blown away that someone thought it was a good idea to put the back of a mall alongside a river.

The intent was to turn the old bridge (at the foreground of the picture) into pedestrian only.

As for the mall... originally built in the 70s. Working with nature wasn't much of a thing back then.

I was up in Woodstock yesterday for some appointments and went to Quiznos for lunch. There were some guys there talking about what was going to happen to the space when the restaurant closes.

From what I could overhear, it sounds like they're moving the Country Style donut store from the other side over to the Quiznos space, complete with the drive-thru. What it means for the current Country-Style space I don't know.

But I think they're anticipating construction happening in the spring and summer and opening late this summer.

Interesting nugget found on CCD Canada:

Quote:
ATLANTIC LOOP, SALISBURY LINE

CCD Ref. Number : NB168943-23-02

Stage : 3-Planning or drawing

Published : February 13, 2023

Starting Date (estimated) : Not available

Size : Mid-sized ($46,990,000)

Work type : New construction

Sector : Private

Category : 2-Commercial

Subcategories : 2D-Warehouses & Distribution Centres

Disciplines : ARCH, ELEC, EQUI, HVAC, MEC-B, STRUC, OTHER*

Location :

SALISBURY (NB)
(Moncton - Richibucto)

Description :
NEW INDUSTRIAL PROJECT -
Located in Salisbury, this project (Atlantic Loop, Salisbury Line) estimated at $46 990 000 and over is in the planning stage. Works concern the construction of an industrial project consisting of a system for battery storage and an overhead line (70 km).

- Initiator: INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO SUBSCRIBERS
Nearly $50M is a substantial project! They are talking about 70 km on new transmission line which will be a substantial portion of this, but one does wonder about the size of the associated battery storage facility to be built in Salisbury. How large will this be???

A word about Salisbury. Since municipal reform occurred, the boundaries of Salisbury have been expanded, and are now contiguous to both Riverview and Moncton. Salisbury has also been promoted to town status (from village). The town is growing and an enlarging commercial tax base is developing, especially around the TCH exit near the Big Stop. The population is largely exurban and commutes into Moncton for work. The town has a bright future. Will we eventually see a [Moncton] Salisbury thread on SSP?

Province approves two new wind farms

Construction on projects near Windsor, N.S., and Oxford to begin winter 2023
CBC News · Posted: Feb 15, 2023 2:41 PM AST | Last Updated: February 15

Nova Scotia's environment minister has approved two new wind projects — one in West Hants and the other in Cumberland County. (George Mortimer/CBC)

Nova Scotia's environment minister has approved two proposed wind farms that would see 28 turbines erected in West Hants and another 12 in Cumberland County.

The Benjamins Mill wind development is expected to contain up to 28 turbines located about 13 kilometres southwest of Windsor, N.S. The project aims to produce up to 150 megawatts of energy from turbines that are 200 metres tall from the ground to the tip of the blade — about the height of a 60-storey building.

The Westchester Wind Project would involve construction and operation of up to 12 wind turbines of the same height. They would be located about 17 kilometres southeast of Oxford and would produce up to 50 megawatts of energy.

I'm excited to see the Westchester project go ahead. Driving NB bound on the 104 after the tolls will look great with wind turbines.

New apartment buildings for Guysborough, Antigonish
Bill Spurr · Multimedia Journalist | Posted: 45 minutes ago | Updated: 45 minutes ago | 3 Min Read

Caper Developments has started work on a 36-unit apartment building in Guysborough, with plans to also erect an 80-unit building in Antigonish. - Contributed

Ground has been broken on a 36-unit apartment building in Guysborough, with one twice as big in the works for Antigonish.

Andrew Boudreau, principal of operational and construction company Caper Developments, and holding company Atlantic Edge Properties, said “boots are on the ground” in Guysborough, with workers now doing groundwork and site prep.

“At 36 units, it’s the largest apartment in Guysborough County of course, so it was more of a feeler to see if we had the demand we were hoping for,” said Boudreau. “It was first put out there roughly eight months ago that we’d be doing a project in that area, and the demand has been unreal.”

It states further down in the article that the proposal for Antigonish is for 80-units with ground floor commercial within town limits. Without renderings both of these projects seem to be great additions to the area.
