^^Wow it's a but uncanny how similar they are. I'm not sure if it's bc the lower manhattan skyline is so ugly or what, but when i ride my bike down there this building looks pretty good.

Thanks for posting these Bvic. With OGP, Essex and this, Grant park is really going to start to feel closed in. And the design is growing on me. I like how the sharp angles of the lower portion are carried through the South facade, all the way to the top.

I saw a pop-up ad for the condos in this tower on Crains' website this morning. It's getting real.

I mean, this is going to a more-than-fair addition to the skyline if the cladding is done well, and i'm sure it will be. Only good news here as far as i can tell.

Wow, the airspace this thing fills is seriously needed. I often forget how short that part of downtown is.

Maybe they're repaving part of the lot to beautify it for the sales center, which they'll also build there? Just an optimistic guess.

I'm pretty sure the sales center will be in the 1006 building.

It will be on the first floor of 1006, they are building it out currently. JK Equities also owns 1006 S Michigan.

Helmut Jahn on His Practice, His Career, and His Most Recent Chicago Project 1000M

Quote:
Named for its address, 1000 South Michigan has been in the works for some time now. Originally set to be a “supertall” building at 1,000 feet, the design has since been scaled back a bit. It’s now 852 feet tall and cantilevers slightly over its neighbors. Stepped boxes have been replaced with sloped sides and curved corners. It’s intended to both fit into its context and stand out—a sleek and confident building bearing the mark of an architect who no longer needs to flash.

I'm wondering if he meant 832'? Nothing on the PD has been amended, as of now at least.

He mentioned 852 more than once as well.
