^Which is what they should be doing. I want the building to be finished but let's be real, its not the job of the PA. Silverstein should get a loan from a bank instead.

No one is even asking the PA for one penny for 3 WTC. They're asking for a loan guarantee, which cuts borrowing costs.

And the PA cannot just spend random money on transit.

That's exactly what Silverstein is doing.

And the PA owns the WTC. Of course it's part of their mission.

Well, consider that the City already has the option of bunus development rights for transit improvements (special permit). One of the things lost in Vornado's decision not to move forward with 15 Penn Plaza was the transit upgrades to and around Penn Station, including the reopening of the walkway connecting Penn Station with the PATH and 6th Ave lines. Those are transit improvements Vornado was making in exchange for nearly half a million square ft of additional development rights.

Of course, if it were simply about cost vs. service improvement, the billions the PA spent on the new PATH hub would be questioned.

But yeah, it's not unusual for developers to provide additional improvements in exchange for development rights.

The burden of cost for the development rights sounds a bit too political here folks!

Logic dictates that if you develop a large complex or tall tower (better yet, a mixed-use development), you are going to attract more people, which would provide a tax-revenue for the city.

I'd say to simply unshackle the developer of the burden of those "transit improvement" costs, which would be better used for this tower!

HELL YES! Its hopped all the way from the 6th tallest to the 2nd tallest building in NYC. Its about time a good illustrator re-does one vanderbilt

If it is a height jump it makes sense! As others have noted, the top looked a little scrunched before. If they increase the overall height of the building (or the top) it would smooth the wrinkle out. Great news, that would be the second tallest in the city!

Thats great, 2nd tallest. Seems to get a slight height increase every time we check. Although I wonder if Nordstrom will be taller.

It would be great to have an office building remain the king of Midtown. I wonder if they're vying for second tallest in the US and Western Hemisphere?

It's certainly possible that Nordstorm could be taller. We just don't have enough information on that yet. And its also possible that 1 Vanderbilt's spire isn't 100 feet, but 50-75 feet instead (since we don't have an official number). Either way it looks like 1 Vanderbilt will definitely be above 1,400 feet, at least.

It may. The developer tends to think big. Although lets not forget the Hudson Spire which I'm hoping dethrones WTC1. But, for now, anytime we get news of something over 1,400', nothing to be picky about.

The article says 1450 to the top.
