The ugly facadectomies are mainly a Toronto thing, I'm not sure how much Calgary would go for them.

It is not just a Toronto thing. See Melbourne.

You kinda missed my point. I was referring to the direction Yonge has taken and the common theme over the course of my term on SSP is that the existing heritage built form is outdated and obsolete for a major city. Stephen Avenue (a.k.a. 8th Avenue) works for Calgary.

I'm not opposed to high rise infill either. It's the characterless developments turning the unique qualities of the seasoned commercial strip into another bland residential mall.

No. I didn't label the poster.

To add. i can respect someone not like One Bloor and its architectural statement through its balconies. However, Your reasoning that without the balconies it's nothing more than a boxy mass is stupid.

Yup, on both the north and south faces of the tower. 222.3 meters of fully dynamic - unlimited colours, unlimited combinations - LED artwork

Love this angle, it reminds me a bit of an old smokestack with this profile.

Fuck that! this is character space that shouldn't be ruined for more office space. Plus developers here have a tendency for bait and switch with heritage buildings, just look at the York Hotel. The buildings on Stephen Ave are mostly protected anyway.

First impression. Wide panels. Typical colour for the glass and caps. The rest of the details are obscured. I will still say it doesn't have the clean sophistation of Bay Adelaide East, Sun Life (south facade), Brookfield Place Calgary, etc. It may not need it once we see more.

It will take about 5 floors beyond the podium to get a real feel for the glass. Or a half section of the diamond pattern. I think it should look stunning. CIBC doesn't want their new digs to look half assed. As for the test glass at BA3, It looks nice but it appears to lack any sort of external physical detail so they did find a way to make this even less interesting then BA2.

There's a whole row of glass up now on the North side of CIBC Square. I've got a perfect view of it from my office, just tried to take a picture but my tablet's camera isn't good enough to get a clear shot through the window and that far away.

Edit: looks like someone on UT got some good shots from ground level.

Pretty happy with what I'm seeing on this one:

It's okay. I prefer full height panels over a mullion between the vision and spandrel panels. The aluminum accent with the lights is very flimsy too. Maybe we're looking at an unfinished product?

It's lacks the aesthetic of BA East, Sun Life or Calgary's Brookfield Place, Manulife Tower.

I'm looking at the full floor section by the crane.

The mullions remind me a bit of Eighth Avenue Place. I feel lukewarm about it so far. Will have to wait for more to go up to reserve my final judgement.

Doesn't look too bad, but then I am a fan of the way EAPs mullions interact with the glass reflections. I think this one will turn out real good.
