To see how small this structure actually is. A. Einstein was right, it is always a question of relativity. For us this scraper is very tall, for God not that much yet.

I thought it would look taller, I was like "where is it?" When I first saw that picture. Ofcourse at heights like that most manmade structures get dwarfed.

Beautiful photos.
From ten km away, the real scale of the building is revealed.

Throw in Nakheel's tower in the mix and it will be even more amazing.

Thanks Fabb.

There is 8 tiers left. Tier 22 is near completion - tier 30 is the top tier. They are going to jack tiers 23 to 30 into place in 1/2 dozen stages. There will be one wing of tier 23 to erect after jacking. This is (was) the plan so we shall see.

The world's crane shortage, can be traced to Asia and certainly Dubai.

I wonder if Dubai is going to save any steel and concrete for the rest of the world.

You people don't actually believe any of that do you?

I'd say that's nothing more than a marketing ploy. Who would actually believe that Dubai has a significant number cranes? China, for example, has literally a million times as many people as Dubai & is sort of in the middle of a building boom of its own.

Again, Rio Tinto (an iron ore producer) has estimated that 50000 highrises will be built in China by 2028. See, for example:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...to.commodities

In 2004 China consumed 54.7% of the world's concrete:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/21/ma.../21bejing.html
& the Wikipedia entry for concrete says 40%, but not where they found that out. How much do you think Dubai uses?
