I assume you jest, such a project would need to be economically viable.

Of course I’m just messing around. I would love for everything to be economically sound first and foremost. Skylines with empty towers are a bit depressing after all. But it would look nice from the outside!

Who's (potentially) behind that one?

Want to convince myself it's not just a pipe dream.

IIRC, it was DHA Captial and Wildcat Venture partners.

It looks like the Wilson tower is happening. A flurry of permits were filed today including ones for demo and the tower crane. FAA permits list the new height at 519'. So it went from 1,072' to 519'.

Pathetic. If built, it will only rise 4' taller than Frost.

Place your bets...This thing gets value-engineered (designed) quite substantially (obviously other than overall height).

Not sure what to think, DHA doesn't seem to have much of a portfolio per their website but Wildcat's is a bit nicer.

I guess Austin may not have any real upcoming supertalls to top 98RR. Kinda sad if so but finger crossed.

I think it was 1,035', Block 16's erroneous permits were 1,072'.

If the design stays the same I'm more than happy as we assumed it was no longer happening at all.

But yea, hopefully no VE-ing.

I'd be more happy with the design as a 500 footer. It just looked odd being that tall. I probably still call it the tongue depressor.

I think it lost a ton of aesthetic appeal when it decreased in size. For one, now, the parking podium looks huge in comparison to the tower itself. When the tower was taller, one almost forgot how big the podium was (is).

In theory you can use the same design as the supertall. Cut it in half. Pop on the design top and call it Phase 1. Then when the market proves itself, pop off the top, continue the rest of the height and pop the top back on. Phase 2 and tower complete.

Interesting had that ever been done in recent on a very tall building?

That would be a really nice surprise lol.

Buildings definitely get height increases / design changes during construction but I'm not sure if it's ever happened to such an extent.

I think this design would look good 8-900 feet. 500 is too short but better than nothing.

Anyone know anything about these guys? I just checked out their websites but nothing beyond that.

I’m still pissed about Fairmont’s decision to defang the original design to something lame.

One day I will move on.

Perhaps in 2045.

I really loved Fairmont's original design. It would have been Austin's second roundish building and have a cool helipad on the roof. Not to mention that would have been taller.

Great shot! Had to be a drone HDR shot, which is not easy to pull off!
