Eh, I would rather have year round residents and the professional crowd occupying the restaurants and retail nearby. This will ensure a successful and diverse downtown
On the way home, I saw a Zoning sign at (I think) Rio and Smith, right across from Tempe Marketplace. I didn't get the best look at it, but I think it said it will be more retail on about 8 acres. It will be interesting to see if and how the industrial areas around there start to be developed.
Couple observations from in and around Tempe the past couple days:
The power lines on 'A' mountain by the Mill came down today. The poles themselves are still up but I assume they're next. I believe Tempe decided to underground the lines after the One Hundred Mill developer made an inquiry about doing something about the one pole in the Monti's parking lot (that I assume would have been in the way of the planned hotel). I'm not holding my breath on this one, but it can't hurt to have one last obstacle out of the way.
ASU is moving dirt and going full bore on the long-planned Biodesign Institute Building C off Rural by the light rail stop. The master plan calls for four buildings (https://biodesign.asu.edu/about/institute/master-plan). They built two, and then were derailed during the Recession. I believe they are only building 'C' now, unclear whether 'D' is still in the plans for future or not.

The poles are gone today. They were working on them when I went by on the train this morning and were completely gone when I came back this afternoon.

From these renderings appears they just combined C and D into one building.
Would be great if they could put a park and ride multi story parking garage right on this property at the S.E. Corner of Washington and Priest for the light rail. People coming from Scottsdale and South Tempe and points more south could leave their cars there and take the light rail. There are few spots on the entire light rail system, that don't already have park and ride provision, that would create more ridership for light rail then a park and ride at this location.
