I'm not talking about the first 2 minutes. It's the whole concept of animated lights. I really don't care if this is the first of its kind in Calgary, Canada, North America or, the world and that the technological capabilities aren't at their fullest. It just doesn't do it for me. It's still garish as classy an installation.
I think of 197 Yonge in Toronto. I could see it from my office window. I thought it was a game changer when first installed. A few months later, it was just a blinding light. Telus is a more advanced design oriented installation and I still like Telus Spark LEDs or the Ryerson Image Centre so who knows. Those installations make sense for their respective usages. This is an office residential building with several being completed every year. Consider when they all have requisite laser light shows projecting from their main facades of all different calibres.
My impression from your posts and a few other posts take more stock in this being the first and/or largest visual effects display than what is actually being displayed. The engineering and programming weights higher than the art. It's new and unique. I remain skepical that new and different is good with this installation and the precedence for many future installations. Less is more is an established path. Static white is timeless.
