Acually, a lot of people. You may not have been around long enough to follow the Freedom Tower saga, but there was a lengthy battle that resulted in Childs being given a mandate to top the tower at 1,776 ft
specifically with a spire. Childs had planned to mark the 1,776 ft height his own way with an observation deck at 1,776 ft on a 2,000 ft tower. It was later Childs own idea to also mark the 1,368 and 1362 ft heights with the redesign. (In his earliest revision, an outdoor deck was planned at the 1,362 ft mark.) But 1,776 ft is the one constant that remains about the tower. In fact, before being christened the "Freedom Tower" by George Pataki, the tower was simply called the "1776 Building". So no, it's not a small deal at all.
