There are stairs inside the tower that lead up to the main lobby from the north (Vesey St) side. Damn i was listening alica keys empire state of mind part 2 song and looking at this new update pictures of Freedom Tower construction development and it gave me a goose bumps just think what will it look like in 2-3 more years. I got to say im very passionate about New York

I don't really see it necessary to cut off any height at all, it should have been taller than the original WTC to begin with, it's 5 feet, who is really going to care honestly? Just lie and say it's 1368-1776.

They probably won't cut any height off now that the tower is already planned and under construction, wouldn't that mess things up? Even if it's just 5 feet. The real "roof" of the tower is in the 1400s anyway and always has been.

Yeah no shit! Especially taking into consideration that everything else has taken a long time, it would really piss me off if the time would be taken to do that.

However; I don't think it would happen. Construction is too far along, any change would involve an expensive re-design.

Also, if it is so symbollic, then why isn't the new observatory going to be the exact same height as the other one was?

Sorry about the rant, but it really kind of does piss me off if they were ever to make such a stupid move... Then again I'm just assuming. NYGUY or Zensteeldude would by far know a hell of a lot more than I would and I shouldn't make assesments until I hear something otherwise.

Based on the height coming from the parapet in the first place, I don't actually think cutting the top row of windows (with nothing behind them mind you) down 5 feet if that's the route they decide to go. I guess we'll find out going forward.

If you look closely at the 8th pic NYguy posted you can see what looks to me like an ohshit !

One of the girts is sitting at an angle like it didn't fit and they left it for now to fix it later.

Acually, a lot of people. You may not have been around long enough to follow the Freedom Tower saga, but there was a lengthy battle that resulted in Childs being given a mandate to top the tower at 1,776 ft specifically with a spire. Childs had planned to mark the 1,776 ft height his own way with an observation deck at 1,776 ft on a 2,000 ft tower. It was later Childs own idea to also mark the 1,368 and 1362 ft heights with the redesign. (In his earliest revision, an outdoor deck was planned at the 1,362 ft mark.) But 1,776 ft is the one constant that remains about the tower. In fact, before being christened the "Freedom Tower" by George Pataki, the tower was simply called the "1776 Building". So no, it's not a small deal at all.
