Lots of buildings have animated LED lighting with many more to come. It's not exactly neon advertisement. Too many developers catching on to this sensory overload may not be a good thing. This is not the case with Telus Sky but, I've notice forumers giving shit architecture a passing grade because of some LED lighting. That's not a good thing either.

I agree it's cool, I just don't think it's a game changer. The lights while fun and playfull are not what make this tower cool.

Telus Sky's visual effects are still more traditional and conservative. The natural progression as a game changer would be installation that can facilitate images and those are the ones where one can go easily overboard. I enjoyed the Blade Runner sequel too. Ana De Armes was a bonus.

It's a game changer in Canada, not Shanghai or Singapore.

It's an LED lighting scheme that is turning up everywhere these days on a Dutch designed building. It's a nice finishing touch to an amazing building but not Game Changing in Canada or anywhere else these days.

It's something I haven't seen elsewhere in Canada, so I'm sticking to my guns on this one lol.

I note as well that this is not just LEDs on a building. This is an art installation by Douglas Coupland:

Quote:
The north and south façades of the tower, will showcase the compelling installation, programmed by Coupland with full-colour motion sequences. Made up of 600 custom bulbs, the integrated LED lighting wraps around the building's window frames to create pixels, that together form an infinite number of patterns and colour displays. TELUS Sky's design is simultaneously symmetrical and curvilinear. Its twisting and mineralogical façade provided the perfect canvas to channel such a dynamic symbol of nature as the Northern Lights.

Coupland is creating a free downloadable app that will share details of how Northern Lights works. Over time, the app will reveal new interactions and versions to enable smartphone and tablet users to hold devices up to TELUS Sky's facade to see and read colour-specific messages that are otherwise concealed. These messages could be simple data like the date, time and weather, but could also become larger and quite elaborate as the technology allows for ingenuity.

Installation or not, it's still not a game changer. Lighting up buildings and installations by artists is nothing new. This just happens to be a really nice one, and it's here in Canada.

A first in Canada/North America. Easily arguably a game changer, especially since those of us asserting it is have sound reasoning, just like how you think your reasoning is sound for your belief that it is not. People are allowed to have different opinions, give it a rest

Sigh. Poor, poor Torontonians, stuck with crapola like One Bloor East while smaller cities like Calgary get the interesting towers.

The two One Bloors are both excellent.

Toronto has a variety of towers going up both good and bad. One Bloor East is a beautiful tower with beautiful lines and curves, plus it's worth mentioning that One Bloor East is taller than anything in Calgary. The only reason why some people think there are crappy towers in TO is because the city has so much going on. Obviously if To is building 50x more than everyone else, its only logical to assume there will be 50 times more generic/boring towers.

The lighting feature On Telus Sky is cool! I really like the building and the lights only add the effect. I do not think it's a game changer as the CN Tower has been lit up in multiple colours for 10+ years. Toronto also has lights on Aura, ICE towers, Ten York even has a crown now. CIBC Square will have lighting features, etc. Go to Montreal....the entire city is lit up like a Christmas Tree including most of the big buildings. NYC also has buildings that completely light up as well. Regardless of what you guys think, the reality is this has been done before.

I understand Calgarians are just super pumped about this new tower, rightfully so its beautiful and personally its one of my favourite to go up in Canada in the past 5 years. But it's also the end of big construction in Calgary for many years. With a 20% or higher vacancy rate DT, there won't be a 600ft+ tower built there in a long long time.

Beginning later this year the Top 10 U/C list will be all Toronto probably for a long time.

Based on the above pic, the lighting on Telus looks very good. One of the less-attractive lighting schemes on a tall building that I can think of is the one in Dallas that is bordered in bright green. I love the colour green, but that application is schlocky.

That's your best argument? By being immature and insulting. If you think One Bloor is a crap tower then you obliviously don't know anything about architecture. Why even be a member on this site? Perhaps there is a bash Toronto forum you can join or even a GroundbreakingLED forum you can be on.

LED light shows on towers done by artists is no longer a new thing, not in North America, not even in Canada. Sorry you can't except that or take a compliment without getting all pissy. I find it funny how facts get in the way of reason with some people. It's sad gunner you had to stoop to this low, I thought you were a bigger person that that.

I admit I am not the number one fan of Telus Sky in general, but I will say it sure looks cool when it's lit up like that.

Outdoor LED installations are an absolute nightmare from an owners perspective. I'm sure that burnout is the first of many (it's not usually a burn out but a wiring/driver issue).

Telus Sky looks great those LEDs. Don't take this the wrong way but she looks better with the lights turned out!

Hmm, well I'll take the bait. One Bloor East is just wraparound balconies, all the way to the top. It's a crappy design for such a tall building. Without those balconies tacked on, I'm not sure there's much architecture left.
