Unsure the status of this project as this has been going back and forth for a while, but the UofA has been contemplating a new rink.

^ That is amazing! Very ambitious project, but the U of A has a pretty storied hockey history so I could see it working. Any word on how many seats?

I remember being very impressed when the U of S built Merlis Belsher Place a few years ago, I had a chance to drop in there back in the spring and I was very impressed. It's a beautiful rink. This proposal looks even better at first glance.

Clare Drake is a great old arena with loads of character but I think in some respects its time has passed. It's very small and cramped and I do believe its ice surface is smaller than regulation.

^which is why it REMAINS great. Concrete for boards, cramped visitor bench, beer lines that mean you can only realistically get 2 beers in 60mins and RATT across the street.

Good grief. It's like the Friday the 13th film franchise.

One can only hope. A new football stadium is needed...badly.

That will happen some time in 2045 at the rate CSEC moves. First they'll need to try and get another mayoral candidate who wants to give them cash handouts.

And to think Nashville is about to spend 2.2 billion USD on a replacement for 23 year old Nissan stadium for the Tennessee Titans

Not sure how much difference to expect between the last agreement and a future agreement, only now costs have presumably ballooned.

Yep. Every time Murray Edwards comes back in a slightly different mask looking to slit the throats of Calgary taxpayers.

No, there's a more appropriate football analogy to be made.

This is it

Scuttlebutt is inflation led to huge overruns, and the ownership group wanted an excuse to get out of the deal. So they took the opportunity to deliberately misunderstand development permit release conditions, and pull the plug.

The arena as designed was a camel.

I suspect a new design will come, with a lower seat count and an across the street service building to save big $

That some other city is getting down on its knees for the ownership of a fabulously rich NFL team does not mean that Calgary should emulate 'The Atlanta/State of Georgia' model.

Maybe it should do what is best for the taxpayers of the City of Calgary.
