Q Tower | 197.4m | 59s | Lifetime | Wallman l site shoring

GameOnBrad

Rendering is so soul-less, the actual build may have a shot at looking a bit better. And the tower is set back a ways from Queens Quay and will be hemmed in a bit by better looking buildings lol.

UT

A least the giant parking garage that stained the waterfront was demolished to make way for the mixed use residential (condo and rental) and retail tower. I wonder if they upped the rental element and reduced the condos... since it's starting. Below is the garage halfway demolished.

Not one specific site in this pic, but the 5 towers shown in the thumbnails will be rising into this frame. You can see 4 of the cranes, with the 5th crane coming soon.

Here are a few select reposts from the excellent Developments Halifax. These are from inner city areas outside downtown from the past few weeks. I thought they all showed something interesting about how the city is developing.

The basically brand new Almon/Robie skyline visible from the Citadel across the Commons

The area is only semi-finished but is really growing up. This is going to get widened to 4 lanes with one BRT lane each direction (that's why the building by the May St sign is set back); I could see it being turned into an LRT corridor.

Gottingen/Brunswick area with visible coloured paneling on modern projects meant to mimic the older wooden houses. That crane isn't for the concrete tower visible behind it, it's for a project in the foreground.

Dutch Village Rd is coalescing into a medium density neighbourhood

King's Wharf in Dartmouth also accelerating a bit with some lowrise, the highise to the left, then a new highrise being started (Brightwork)

Dartmouth bridge area. This is the "old" round of construction; there is excavation happening for a new round of 30-40 storey buildings.

One Delisle's balcony pattern creates a corkscrew. Normally, I'm a less is better type but, this addition incorporates balconies through enhancing the overall form. Well done.

I don't care for the main tower at Richmond Yard but, I still give the developer credit for the overall masterplan. Dartmouth skyline may rapidly grow in the next few years but, it will also look like a giant people warehouse from Canuckistan.

QG Vieux-Québec.

The construction of this project is finally going ahead after years of delays (building something inside the Old City walls is frustratingly difficult).

Posting to show how dense construction is in some areas of Halifax. There are seven major construction sites within 350 metres of MacDonald Bridge in Dartmouth. They range from 7 floors to 40 floors and all of the current construction sites are being built individually by developers and not part of a master planned area. Here are four of them as of last weekend. The others can be seen on my blog.

WYSE TOWER - 27 FLOORS

DAWSON TOWER SUITES - 21 FLOORS

THE NEST - 20 FLOORS

LITTLE BROOKLYN I - THE ARROWS - 40 FLOORS

Final Concrete Block Removal
The Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn project reached a major milestone.

After seven months of steady, careful work, the final concrete block has now been removed from what will become the atrium of our building.

This was a complex job—1335 concrete blocks, weighing a total of 13.5 million pounds, were safely taken out.

With this work complete, the team is now moving ahead with scaffolding and preparing to build the glass ceiling that will fully enclose the space.

Every step brings us closer to transforming the former Hudson’s Bay Company building into a living expression of reconciliation, pride, and First Nations strength.

Miigwetch, pidamaya ye, and thank you to the hardworking team at PCL, along with all subcontractors, for helping to bring our vision to life.

Odenak in Ottawa's LeBreton Flats from last Thursday. Roughly 4 floors left, + the angled roof that's equivalent to about 2 floors.
