Mies Van Der Rohe wasn't designing what would have been considered 'Chicago skyscrapers' in his day... Nor was Goldberg with all that concrete and those curves. Wright though not really designing skyscrapers wasn't designing in the predominant style of his day either.
I couldn't agree more.

^ to clarify, I think we are talking about 'Chicago Architecture' as a euphemism for good architecture... form follows function, etc... it's just Chicago has a particularly unique history at establishing milestones in this endeavour, good architecture

I'd also add that Chicago architecture is an attempt usually to be economical, efficient.. these qualities span long periods of time and quite a few different architectural styles.

I know the meeting is scheduled for Monday the 13th but was there any sort of public meeting on this last night or was the news just making shit up again?

That seems like an unnecessarily asymmetric structural plan.

looks like the angles are more pronounced on the northern face of the building. I think I would flip that around seems like that could kill some river views.

I think that's the southern face, and restaurant is sticking out on the right.

I'm not cynical, but there's no vision. It's just a mod podge of different ideas:
3 towers
zig-zags
striped

Any shiny building of this scale will be exciting, but within that, Gang couldn't create something more intriguing and sophisticated?
Given how loud and expensive this design is, you'd think we'd see more effort than a doodle. The whole scheme is too simple.

You know i never really thought about how tall the 2nd tower is in its own right. 68 floors? Not bad.

Yea, but it's weird that they only drew the black outline up to that part and not the very top (89th floor).

Wait for the official renderings, folks. You may be pleasantly surprised. Release is just a few days away.

People's criticism of this tower is hilarious; folks want something unique and different, then this comes along and 'whoa! This is TOO weird!' Wtf??

^ The initial leak of that garish developer's pre-rendering didn't help much. But the official release of renderings should tell a better story.

Less than 24-hours to go!

I'm totally fine with a building of this caliber to stand out. the biggest lesson to learn is not every buildings needs to be a star. Remember this and we can avoid a skyline like Dubai.

It's not that it's TOO weird, it's that it is TOO arbitrary and simplistic...

as CHI -21c noted, it would be kinda hard to fuck up a tower with this diagram and these proportions, but based on what we've seen so far, Gang found a way to do it...
