Well, that's two major bits of "in kind" federal funding announced in the last two weeks (rejuvenated bus fleet & flood fix for Jonathan Creek). I think the ball is now firmly back in the provinces court. Robert Goguen has won this round.

Roger Melanson probably is getting the message when he commented on the throngs of reporters showing up for a "culvert funding announcement"

He must know by now that what people really want to hear about is provincial funding for the events centre.

According to the Radio-Canada article on the topic, a private meeting took place this morning with the Mayor Leblanc, Roger Melanson, Victor Boudreau and Robert Goguen to discuss the Events Centre funding and that no announcement was planned for it today. An announcement is planned in the next couple of weeks.

According to some I have spoken with who were there, the minister said no such thing though I suppose the minister could have told Rad-Can that in private.

Quote? The article posted online now has remained unchanged and refers to the meeting, not the announcement. The other news outlets referred to the announcement and speculated about it being about the Events Centre.

Why would this type of funding be even worthy of a press release at City Hall? Other than creating political hype and having the press speculate, thus creating more political hype and more speculations of course!!!

Should we start a tally of all these funding announcements? I suspect that we'll continue to receive funding like this until we get to the 25 million needed from each level of government for the events center to move forward.

As a note, I read that the total cost for the culvert was in the 6 million range and that the federal, provincial and city are putting in 1.1 each and CN is picking up the rest.
Did I read that wrong?

Nope, you're quite right. Half the cost of the project is CN's. The culvert will be underneath their main line south of Main Street.

Five days until the self imposed "deadline" and Robert Goguen and Victor Boudreau are still playing he said/she said.

In particular, it appears as if Boudreau is trying to score political points against Goguen (in the face of the upcoming federal election), and is again engaged in unnecessary stalling tactics.

The ball is firmly in the provinces court right now, but it appears as if Dominic still wants Brian to play footsie for a while longer. It's too late for this. We need a decision now............
