Sorry to be an ass hole, but I think from this angle it should be
at least a building space between the R/C and the Shangri-La, not
side by side as they appear to be on the picture. Good job though!

Not bad, but I agree there should be a gap between Shangri-La and Ritz-Carlton. The Ritz-Carlton will be between Orca Place and the Federal Gov't building. Right behind the office block with the whitish horizontal banding. Also, the top of the mechanical for Ritz-Carlton will be at 600 ft - which is only 42 ft below the top of the fins of Shangri-La (about 1 storey below where it is now (top slab) (i.e. top slab of Shangri-La was to be 600ft until they inserted the extra floor) so they will be closer in height than shown.

^Agreed, but the Ritz will also give Vancouver a building of architectural distinction, whereas the Shangri-La is just tall.

That crane's gotta be coming down soon.

Is the building finally topped?

Depends if the holographic squares on the Shangri-La are lit with LEDs or fibre optics. If so, then it would be quite the spectacle on the skyline. Note though, that interactive displays like that often fall into disrepair - like the Busby designed display on the renovated William Farrell (Telus) Building at Robson & Seymour. The fibre optics (which changed colours) on that facade haven't been lit for years (and that's a corporate owner, not a residential condo board).

Impressive rendering sono65. Very realistic. It's not always easy to approximate heights/spacing but even if your rendering isn't 100% accurate, it still looks pretty damn cool.

Any possibility you could make a future skyline rendering from a wider perspective and with more projects? The Vancouver forumers have been lacking a good renderer for some time and it would be great to see a nice future rendering of Vancouver to put up alongside the respective Toronto and Calgary ones in the Canada section. I realize it would probably be a pretty time consuming process though so no pressure.

Thanks for the great pic keyplan.

I actually really like the architecture of Shangri-La. I wouldn't call myself the biggest fan of Chang's work or proclaim I was excited about the design of Shangri-La when it was just a model. Over time though I have come to really appreciate the design as it has risen from the ground. I really love the different angles of the building from its blocky office looking side to its wedge which gives it a narrow appearence. All in all I wouldn't call Shagri-La an architectural masterpiece but still a sexy very respectful building I am proud resides in Vancouver.

Did we ever get any renderings of the podium fronting georgia st., as a lot of the hoarding has come down, it looks like a lot of concrete walls, it would be a shame if it wasn't better integrated with the street, it could really help to produce more street life along georgia.

Thought I would try to redeem myself. This one is not very well integrated, but I tried to finish off Shagri-La, and added Ritz. By the way, nice photo to whoever shot it.

i hate being a dick, but the RC is off. a general rule of thumb is that RC should be btwn shangri-la and the melville (somewhat closer to shangri-la to be more percise). here's a helpful map:http://www.lestwarog.com/region-2.html

but other than that, i thought i was well integrated along with ur pervious one

Just no way of pleasing this people is there, sono65? But seriously, everybody is just adding some constructive criticism. You're without a doubt the best renderer amongst us Vancouverites that I've seen. I don't think I would've even noticed the point that squeezied just made (though I think he's right). Consider yourself redeemed though cause it is still a great rendering and better than anything us criticizers could do.

^^The crane in the lower right corner is patina, so its gonna rise right up in front of that red/green building.
