This.

Every time I'm down there, I've never gotten the sense that they plopped a suburban campus onto a swath of land downtown (like, say, some of the community college campuses elsewhere in the Valley). That campus is one of the best (if not the best?) thing to happen to Phoenix in years, but like anything else of this magnitude, its going to take time to cultivate.

good news! It seems that the DD article was just misleading and ASU's $20M building will be in conjunction w/ the YMCA, not in spite of it.

And it'll be to its south for those that were hypothesizing about that detail, too.

Interesting, I wonder how large the footprint will be. I really think outdoor basketball courts would be great right around there or somewhere adjacent to the Civic Space park to augment it. If this new building doesn't take up that entire surface lot I'd love to see some courts put in.

Really I just want Downtown Phoenix to have its own Rucker with views of the skyline and "Her Secret is Patience," that would be awesome.

Ball courts would be great. I would love a place to play within walking distance that isn't Verde.

On ASU SRC page

Quote:
Downtown campus is a shared facility with the YMCA
Includes: indoor pool, weight/cardio space, small gym, basketball courts (not regulation size)

Downtown campus - 110,000 sq ft new/expanded facilities to include a potential partnership with YMCA (expansion) and develop new facility to focus on community space.

Rationale:

YMCA is currently crowded with serving two communities with same peak time interest
Creates community and allows for more student meeting places.

Hmm...110,000 sq ft on a 14,000 sq ft lot, that's 8 floors (rounded up from 7.85)...could it be?

i hope they put another basketball court in. I know my biggest beef was that the basketball court at the Y was always packed from 6-10.

The specs might be dated from the SRC site since it also talked about how on the Main Campus that PE West and East might be demoed. Doesn't look the case.

Surprised there's no renderings of the Post Office renovation/expansion.

Maybe we should start a UofA downtown construction thread since they have quite a bit going on with the health sciences building, cancer center and medical school facilities.

Why would you separate the thread when it's the same shit either way. Plus, why give UofA any recognition that it even exists?

^ Technically he's got a point seeing as how ASU's name isn't even attached to the biomedical stuff anymore. The hat I have with both their logos might actually be worth something someday as it's unlikely any merchandise will ever have both their monikers again.

I renamed the thread just for you Vicelord.
