Gotcha...thanks. I was just curious seeing as the renderings all indicated a flat terrace.
I also went to the 360 site and looked at the 17th floor plans and the terrace doesn't seem to have a pool. The big triangular thing would seem to be a piece of equipment or a mold. I don't think it is some panes of glass, but it reminds me of how they protect glass while transporting something that may be breakable.

I guess we'll find out soon enough, as the building rises. As for the pool, my understanding is it will sit atop the 8th floor terrace, above the parking garage, and on the west side of the complex.

I believe the pool is on the 8th level, the podium level to the west. On my Lego model here, it's that lower level on the right side. Nevermind the red pieces, I just had those there as a marker and forgot to remove them for the photo shoot.

Something I just found at Statesman.com. This is kind of scary actually.

Apparently they have a public emergency alarm on the UT Tower.

Go here, you can click on it to hear it. Strange, I never knew they did that.

Ah! I heard that today when I was walking to class. They've been testing that for a few months now b/w 11am-12noon.

I think it's fairly new. We had other "tests" that just sounded like fire alarms. They weren't as loud and didn't seem to be coming out of everywhere you turn like this one.

And yeah. It IS eerie.

Sounds exactly like the sirens my home town used to warn of a dangerous situation like a bad storm approaching, they also used it as a noontime, 6 oclock, and 9 oclock, warning. When the 9er went off I knew it was time to head home soon. We could hear the siren in every part of town, about an area the size of Crestview. If it went off at any other time than normal, it would go continuosly until an all cear was declared. So it was obvious that it was an emergency warning.

Thanks for that. The most interesting thing to me is that they actually included the rendering of Altavida in one of the pics in the Photo gallery! It was great to see how those buildings will look together! It also feels more honest in terms of what some of the views will be like to the SZ for residents of the Austonian.

That is by far the nicest condo website I've seen yet. Not sure if it is worth the entry price of $500k, but the website is great. I like the tool for checking out the views from the various units.

Agreed, whether intentional or not, it was was an honest move to include Altavida in the renderings.. It will certainly affect views to the SW toward Zilker, etc.

Also, the architect's site indicates that a second tower may eventually go up on the western half of the block shared by the Austonian. Who knows how tall that baby would be, if it ever happens. Something else to consider if you are looking at a westward-facing unit on the lower floors.

Could someone take a shot of Austin from Riverside drive so you see all of downtown? Maybe one from Joe's Crab Shack and another one from South Congress?

That would probably make sense once Block 21 is developed. However, they would be unable to start site prep work on the western part of that block until the Children's Museum moves to Block 21.

Is the sales gala for the Austonian open to the public? I'd really like to check it out and look at their models. The renderings of the kitchens look absolutely amazing!

By the way, has anyone heard any news about the Las Manitas / Marriott building? Things seem to be very quiet on that front lately.

No, the event tonight is invite only.

On another note, according to the press kit for The Austonian, the tower is actually seems to be 680' (207.3m) tall! I hope that's not the case. But now it's beginning to make since to me why the Statesman said the tower was going to be 780', a few weeks ago…It was a typo! They probably meant to state that it was going to be 680'.

So, it looks as if T. Stacy still has his chance of claiming Austin's tallest!

After looking at the new Austonian website I continue to be impressed with this project. It has a lot of really good floorplans and impressive interiors in addition to the already striking exterior look the building has. This is going to be one of the best condo buildings in Texas, not just in Austin!

Interesting. I'm going to have to send them an email asking for the heights. When I did my model of the tower at 780 feet, that did seem a bit tall for the renderings...

Wide view, 18th floor underway... the object in question is at the right.

I threw this question at Kelvin here on the forum, who is a structural engineer.

Here's what he and kayosthery said about it:
