^ That was supposedly the plan, according to Durst.

The Empire State is in a location where, at least for the next few years, there's no immediate competition on the skyline, it's visual presence is the same as it always has been. Bet even now, 432 Park is the obvious taller tower on the skyline from a distance, no doubt about it.

Anyway, as far as the slender skyscraper development across 57th Street goes, imagine a classic skyline, only on a larger scale.

Is there only one more core jump remaining? And perhaps only 5 more perimeter jumps?

Stunning photos. LaGuardia has some of the best flight patterns to view the city in all its glory, and really captures the density.

Is there any vantage point citywide in which this big bambino doesn't look stunning, elegant or majestic?
The supertalls and smaller ones to come will be something indeed if they follow this tower's lead of making the authorized renders look pathetic and pale.

And BTW...We're all so busy looking at the "jumps" in the core and perimeter (i.e. don't forget it's practically a sheer concrete exoskeleton) that we have yet to see the protective layers stripped off the fenestration...And removal of the safety netting et al. from the open air mech spaces to be illumined by night.

The fate of the concrete in terms of whether to let it continue "curing" or not is the big issue in my estimation, one that might incur the additional expense of patching it over or some similar whitewashing approach.

According to this...http://merihmorgan.com/new-developments-ny/

432 Park is 90% in contract. More than the 70% at One57, but just under the 95% at 56 Leonard.

Is this still at a height of 1317'? I haven't heard of a core jump in a few days.

Why? I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm honestly curious what others like about it besides its' imposing height. To me…. well, I'm not a fan of these kind of tall, skinny towers. They seem to just stick out of the skyline like jarring radio-masts and don't really add anything new, in comparison to the views they take away (like the ESB from certain angles).

Not trying to challenge. Just trying to understand.

The ESB is 20 blocks away. Why does it matter? Also, that building is the least attractive built during its time. The building, in essence, is a box with setbacks. Take a look at the gorgeous Chrysler Building or 70 Pine St for inspiration which, also are far better buildings of its time.

P.S. -- True Art Deco can never be revived. Have you seen worldwide attempts at it? Let's just say that it isn't going too well no matter the effort. It's best to leave it in the past and cherish (some) buildings that remain today.
