Maybe it's a placeholder for the hypothetical Arrow Press Square tower?

It could just be 111 Main too. The perspective might be skewed.

Do you know something?

Since everyone is talking about all the new projects, I walked by the Block 67 project (West Quarter) site today and it looks like a lot of excavation has been done so its coming along nicely.

I'm pretty sure these are not old and new renderings of the same face. They are both current. The first image is the 200 S face, and the second image is the 300 S face.
I snapped a couple pictures of The Broadway site. Not too good with uploading images here, but the Imgur link should work.

It appears most of the work currently is happening on the north end of the project.

Oh man, the revised design of the convention hotel looks so much more bland. "Value Engineering" is a bit of a misnomer. This looks so bland and not very attractive now.

Not a skyscraper but another big project underway today...
Fences went up this morning around Temple Square, presumably the beginning of the seismic retrofit of the Salt Lake Temple and related additions and changes.

Sidewalk on South Temple closed except for crosswalk between Square and City Creek Center. Sidewalk closed and outer street lane blocked off on North Temple side. Looks like east gate and part of plaza walkway also closed but didn’t investigate.

Thanks for standing up for my avatar!

I collect coin banks shaped like buildings. The pictured building, and the Salt Lake Temple, are the only local ones I have ever found.

Real Salt Lake aims to build new Boys and Girls club, community plaza, futsal court
https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/rea...munity-futsal/

Real Salt Lake is aiming to develop land in Salt Lake City through its foundation.

According to a release from the club, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will announce a new public-private proposal Thursday with the RSL Foundation and the Hansen Family Foundation at the Sugarhouse Boys and Girls club.

The proposal that Real Salt Lake will submit will include plans to develop the Sugarmount land by building a new Boys and Girls club and building a community plaza. The plaza will feature a futsal court to honor longtime RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Rimando played for Real Salt Lake from 2007 through 2019. He holds Major League Soccer records for career shutouts, wins, saves and appearances.

After the new Boys and Girls club is built, Real Salt Lake will build indoor courts in place of where the current one sits.

The announcement is set for 2 p.m. MT Thursday.

Here's a picture I found on the mayor's facebook page showing the rendering

I like the changes to the tower but you're right the low rise section to the west is weird though. What's up with the short little tower nub thing? Needs to be 40 feet taller. Looks like it's hiding.

You got it buddy. That's a pretty cool coin bank you got there.

Of all of the towers proposed, I like the Kensington and Theater proposals the best from a design aspect. CCH looks good but I wish they could have not done a shadow-casting wall. Although I think Liberty Sky will actually do the most for the skyline, filling in our gap tooth between WF Tower and One Utah Tower from the west.

EDIT: Any of you photoshop nerds ever take a swing at a massing view with the new towers from my favorite view point: the 10th North overpass looking SE? Alas, I have zero technical skills.
Love the post Marvland! Thanks!

I think the nub is an already existing part of the convention center. You’re right though. They should make it taller or just get rid of it.

Great pictures!

To add to that, I took one from the other side likely a few days later, given the rising of the steel.

Sugar House Costume Sign preserves the past amid rapid redevelopment

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune)

By Taylor Stevens - The Salt Lake Tribune - https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics...-costume-sign/

The old Salt Lake Costume sign is alight once again on the southeast corner of 1100 East and 1700 South in Salt Lake City’s Sugar House neighborhood.

The knight on horseback is perched atop a new 19-unit apartment complex built from the bones of the costume shop that once sat there — a symbol of the past contrasted against a development that exemplifies the near-constant pace of recent redevelopment in this community.

For years, historic signs like this one were lost to neglect and removal, due to the unintended consequences of an old city ordinance that put significant restrictions on owners who wanted to move them to accommodate redevelopment, changing uses or even to make repairs.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Salt Lake Costume Co. sign, originally designed by Lloyd S. Coley in the '50s while working for Rainbow Neon Sign Co., lives on once more as Sergio Camacho, left, and Don Fitches help put it back home in its original location at 1700 S. 1100 East on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, in what is now called the Salt Lake Costume Apartments.

“Once they came down, they couldn’t go back up,” said former Salt Lake City Councilwoman Lisa Adams, who began the process to update the sign ordinance during her time on the panel. “And no one thought about long term when that was written. No one was thinking, ‘Oh, this is stuff that we’ll want to be preserved.’”

Before the City Council updated its code in September 2018, business owners who needed to service but wanted to keep their historic signs had to take sometimes drastic measures to comply with the code.

The spinning Granite Furniture sign on 2100 South, famed for its spiky “Sputnik” on top, for example, was once mended in midair at a cost of around $30,000, said Mark Isaac, who was then the project manager for Boulder Ventures’ redevelopment of the properties.

“We actually got a lane closure permit and a plaza permit and YESCO signs had to bring boom trucks out and do all the work from a boom truck on the building,” said Isaac, now a principal with Pinyon 8 Consulting. “We felt that that sign was such a placemaker for the building and for the history of the area that we were willing to pay extra to have it refabricated.”

The Salt Lake Costume sign was one of the first tests of the city’s new vintage sign ordinance, which provides a pathway for property owners to save signs that meet certain characteristics and allows them to be restored or recreated and reinstalled at their original sites or even at new ones.

In determining whether a sign should be saved, the city considers whether it bears a unique emblem, logo or another graphic specific to the city or region; whether it is characteristic of a specific historic period; and whether it retains or will reestablish the original design character of the sign. Billboards are not eligible for vintage sign designation.

Isaac, who continues to work on projects in the Sugar House area, called it an “excellent code change.”

“I can’t think of one negative thing about it,” he said. “We were losing some of this old creative signage and character and it’s only because of a sign ordinance that really didn’t make sense.”

The amended ordinance is also a win for the Sugar House Community Council, which became involved in advocating for updates after learning that the Sputnik sign may be in danger of being taken down.

Laurie Bray, a member of the Sugar House Community Council who serves on the Historic Sign Committee and has owned a photography business in the area since 2006, said the vintage signs are worth saving as works of art that reflect the history of the Sugar House Business District.

Yo just fyi--

No need to quote a post with a HUGE photo in it... over and over again.

Just take the photo out when you quote the post so that we don't have to scroll through HUGE images of the same photo 10 times on one page! Sheesh!

I can't be the only one annoyed by this.

Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll...

Leave 'em in but put the spoiler tag around 'em. Best of both worlds and it doesn't force anyone to scroll through a bunch of photos they've already seen (that are often just a couple posts above the one we're scrolling through).
