I've been wondering what people think... when will this boom be over?
a) when the number of towers under construction goes below 5? 10? 20?
b) when 6 or 12 months go by with 0 or 1 construction starts?
c) when the Spire is done?
d) when nothing above 500 feet is being built?

The boom will slow down, but it will never die. Damn it, don't you all see? City living is back! People want to live in walkable environments. Sure, not everybody does, but a lot of people do.
Chicago has what virtually no other American city has. A SHITLOAD of high paying jobs downtown, as well as a growing assortment of cultural/entertainment amenities. As energy prices continue to rise in the near future, living near one's source of employment will only become more important. The real estate market may be down, but the underlying demand is still there.
Those are just my thoughts..

YES! Jean Nouvel is the greatest. I've been a fan of his ever since the Arab Institute in Paris. Next month the Pritzker Prize should be announced... aren't Nouvel and Helmut Jahn overdue for it?
I'm amazed that Nouvel has never won it.
I don't ever expect to see Jahn win it, unless he really unleashes some radical architecture in the coming years/decades.
I'd also like to see Abalos y Herreros win it but there's a ton of great work out there right now.

This picture reminds me of an incident last Tuesday at this site. I was out to lunch about a block from here and witnessed an object fall from the crane. Whatever it was that fell ended up clipping the power lines on the way down and blowing out a transformer. I don't think it made the news anywhere, and thankfully nobody to my knowledge was hurt.

I think it comes down to proposals. As long as there are large projects on the boards, the boom lives. It's once there's nothing on anyone's plate that it's going to feel like it's over.
If the W=A and Arquetectonica projects stay alive, then the boom lives.
This abomination needs to be BULLDOZED before it even gets out of the ground!!!!!!!!! the base of this is a joke and totally ruins the character of the neighborhood! These projects just infuriate me!!!!!!! I love the heights and the densities but why does the city keep making the same mistakes over and over! guess palm greasing is really the better art form to be familiar with!!!!

...don't stop there though; go across the street and take out 10 e delaware, elysian, and 900 n michigan, and the would will be a better place.
