Hi all.

The top level is 160 Mezz. 3 - the first level of tier 18 - and is 260 sq. m. Above this is 6.4 m. sections with no named levels. There is a movement among some forummers to show the landings and platforms above 160 Mezz. 3 as numbered levels but this is unofficial.

The official count will be 162 unless they do the measurement from the Concourse level in which case it will be 163. The plans start at 0.00 as the floor of the Ground level but the Concourse does have an entrance at grade 6 m. lower on a different side of the structure than the Ground level entrance so it may be a legit starting point for the official measure.

Going by the plans ;
- 160 levels
less 4 - skipped levels 41, 74, 110, and 137
plus 6 - Ground Level, 155 mezz., 158 mezz., 160 mezz. 1, 160 mezz. 2, and 160 mezz. 3
= 162 levels
(Level 1 is actually the second level as Ground level is the first)

It's not as bad a a few misleading numberings in NY and HK, but why do they do it ?

Interesting. . . I'm still curious as to how the CTBUH will define it. . . I'd be inclined to agree with your numbers given that the absolute elevation would be measured from the -6m entrance (which is how Sears Tower is defined). . . there are more than a few projects that have long been completed that I'd like to see accurate elevation diagrams for. . . Aon Center, JHC and 2PRU here in Chicago all face similar connundrums. . .

Hi Fabb.

The 4 skipped levels on the burj are part of the MEP levels. The levels just below them are very tall - perhaps this is why they chose to skip numbers ?
Also all 4 are shown as elevator machine rooms for the use - even though they skip the numbers those levels are in the plans - just no elevations or heights.

Hi Tom.

Sears Tower also has entrances at different elevations like the Burj ? - Cool.
Still a long wait but I agree that it will be interesting to see where they measure from - and to.

It is too bad that full sets of blueprints are not available to all for every building / structure. I realize there is some security issues with the destructive idiots of the world but it would be nice for the rest of us.

This tower is huge but it has never really struck me as being sleek and tall, from the bottom it looks fat and squat. It doesnt look like 2650 ft tall, it looks more like 1500 ft from some angles, but then again it still has like 450 ft left! yay

The uncompleted cladding doesn't help the impression of verticality. It'll get better.

Not to get off topic, but I wonder why some people are so concerned about that. . . it's quite obvious that anyone willing to wreak havok would merely need to open their eyes to find the biggest target. . . no amount of access to online databases, blueprints or elevation diagrams would make any difference. . .

Anyhow. . . yes. . . Sears Tower has two entrances. . . one on Wacker Drive which is a bi-level street (the upper level is where the entrance is) while the rear of the building is a few meters down on grade level along Franklin Street. . . that entrance was remodelled in the 1990s and has more pedestrian egress, and that is where the CTBUH revised their height figures. . . recently (within the last year) Emporis Editors met with SOM and reviewed the elevation blueprints and revised the height once more (I don't think any further height revision will happen to Sears unless they /add/ floors. . . however unlikely that would be). . .

So using that as a benchmark Burj Dubai does have a chance to get measured from the lowest entrance which would be an additional 6 meters according to your last detailed update. . .

Hi all.

Picasa - 08 07 04

The first columns of tier 20 can be seen - 668.9 m. tall now. This tier starts with a terrace that is the roof of tier 19 wing facing 120 degrees.

I'm liking the fact that on the crane masts they are putting a red section at the top of each tier - makes it alot easier to both estimate the height and the date on undated shots. The cladding progress really helps on the undated shots also.

It will be interesting to see if the start of the jacking proceedure will start in this tier.

Dequal -

Thanks for those video links on the Burj Dubai - fascinating viewing and a good start on understanding how spectacular an achievement the building of this Middle Eastern Monster is!

Burj Dubai only reminds me of Trump Tower Chicago, but much taller. Upon its completion, this tower will no doubt, become a world wonder. But its reign as tallest structure ever built will only last a few years at best.

- A world wonder for sure.

I agree that the Burj will pave the way for a new order of tall structures.

Many taller are being planned.

Great time for skyscrapers.

these make the building exactly 1,000 times better, in my most humble of opinions:
